Too smart for guys?

I have been talking to this one guy for months and he has told me he was interested in me so I told him I was too because well, I am. We went on a date and talked for a little while before another date. On the second date he told me that I was very smart, to which I said thank you. Then on Saturday I was talking to him when he said "You are very smart." I said thank you. Then today I got an email from him saying he could no longer continue talking to me because I am too smart. For the last 3 years this has happened to me. I get close to a guy and then he says I am too smart for him and he refuses to date me. Some guys say they can't even be my friend because I am smarter than them. I am not actually super smart, just like 87.6 average smart, not like 98 average smart.

Does this seem weird to anyone else?

How old are you guys? I've always heard that girls will develop faster than guys biologically.

This sounds like an excuse a paedophile would give.

Relax... it`s an honest question.

OP: A/S/L?

Don't you have girls at your school that you could go for?

LOL

I doubt this is a problem that any girl has ever had.

"Too smart for a guy." Priceless!

Like all good things in life. This problem resides in the mind of the beholder.

Last girl I dated was a 1st year PhD student and this wasn't a problem - in fact, she was less intelligent than me. From what I gathered, being "too smart for guys" was never an issue for her in the past. And this is among the best the female sex has to offer in terms of intelligence.

The OP is just trying to make herself feel better about guys not being into her. I can sort of buy that she dated one dude who was inferior intellectually. But for it to happen on a consistent basis is just statistically unlikely as males, on average, have higher IQs.

I've noticed my guy friends will actually find a girl more attractive if she's smart. This is partially by their admission, partially by my observation. They're engineers so are somewhat girl deprived on a day-to-day basis.

Don't worry about it and aim high. You'll find the one that you can actually communicate with on your intellectual level.

Look, the guys obviously used that as an excuse. There's something that you're not doing right. Clearly, you're attractive enough/have a good enough personality to get the date in the first place, BUT during the dates, you're doing something wrong.

It's like when girls say "I'm not ready for a relationship" or "You're too much of a friend." Well OBVIOUSLY they aren't attracted to the guy when they say it, or else they wouldn't say it. Right? Right.

Same principle, reversed gender. Good luck.

He sounds dumb. Go for smarter guys.

Yeah, I agree with Kraken. If someone stops dating or talking to you because you're smart, then they are not worth your time to keep around.

As someone pointed out above, guys are on average smarter than girls. Guys' intelligence is more varied, and when their IQ distributions are plotted on a bell curve guys have a higher standard deviation than girls, so they have more geniuses but also more mentally retarded. Statisically your problem shouldn't happen, unless you're looking in the wrong direction. Look for smart guys, people should find partners of similar intelligence. Going with someone smarter than you makes you feel small, going with someone less smart than you makes you bored.

I just spent a night with a girl who is considerably more intelligent than me, and the times when we were talking were really awkward. I don't want to do it again and if she asks me why I'll probably tell her the reason.

ARMY101 is just being a dick. Intelligent people are by definition on a higher horse than the rest of the population. They can't help but seem arrogant.

Personally, I wouldn't want my girl to be a genius, but I don't want her to be an idiot either. My intelligence is pretty average (my current average is like 85% if that's how you want to look at it), and a girl like that would be great. You can talk about "smart stuff" now and then, and then the rest of the time, act like complete morons, but still have a good time either way.
So yea, I guess it just depends on the guy then. :|

Who cares about averages. Once you get the diploma or whatever you're working towards. Everyone is on the same playing field. 50's -100's it's all the same as long as it's not failing. Or at least it is in my line of studies. If people can't stand who you are, let them and move with life. Don't dwell on the past.

For me, I've found that guys are attracted to smart girls. Then again, I usually date older guys. Maybe the issue is the maturity level?

This post would make sense if the OP was a Wharton MBA, or a Johns Hopkins medical student, or a MIT physicist. But c'mon, the only place she's been accepted to is Trent. Of all places.
