Within the next week or two, UW is going to be making it's first round of acceptances for the math department. Discuss and share averages here if you're one of the students shooting for a round one acceptance into a math department program!

Good luck!

Sauder vs Queen's Commerce

0 replies • Posted: 7:03AM March 04, 2015 UTC
Hey all.

I am a first year student at UVic, and I have applied to transfer to both Sauder and Queen's Commerce. I have already been accepted to Sauder, and will most likely be accepted to Queen's.

My question is, which one do I go to ?

Queen's is awfully expensive, although I hear they offer decent bursaries. If this is true, this could be a major determining factor. I would also have to make up a lot of courses, which could be a problem. How great is a degree from Queen's Commerce in reality though? I see a lot of debate floating around, although most people seem to agree that Queen's has great job placements.

Sauder is cheaper than Queen's, which is an upside. Apparently Sauder gets a lot of placements in investment firms, which is also an upside, although Sauder graduates are less likely to move to US for work.

Which one should I go for?

What chance do I have to get into Queen's Commerce with an 89% average. My school isn't semestered so I cant wait till next semester to boost my marks..this is as far as it goes..I'm so worried. I have really good ECs though. I'm the secretary of CANFAR and United Way, journalist for the yearbook, Head of Publicity for the school drama festival, Events committee member for Leadership Council, and I work at LDATD where I teach children with disabilities.

Any feedback is appreciated..

Waterloo Social Life

So far I've been accepted to Waterloo Systems Design Engineering, Queens Engineering, and Mcgill ECE, and I can't decide where I want to go.

For me personally, I want to go somewhat into the software industry (may change), so from what I've heard Waterloo has an incredible co-op program which can help me accomplish this through systems design. At the same time though I love to socialize, party (turnup), and be involved in extra curriculars, so from what I've heard Waterloo is not really the place to go :(.

Queens and McGill both have awesome social scenes, better than Waterloo (so I hear) so I really don't know what to choose! I want to get the most out of my 4 years at Uni ( 5 at UW ) but I also want to land a killer job after! Any thoughts on what I should do? :/ Thanks!

PS - Since I'm going into engineering it's not like I'll have all the time to party anyway, so at most I'll go out once ir twice a week. At UW I'll have Laurier (got some buds over there) and the town so I cant see it being that bad. Let me know what you think!

How to get 90s in highschool?

9 replies • Last reply: 7:03AM March 04, 2015 UTC by Ezra Koenig
Currently in grade 10, with an average of around 80s, I do my homework, study for tests, do everything the teacher assign, I never once in my life miss an assignment.

I am considered as a pre-ib student and I've heard grade 11 ib is very difficult, any ideas on how to reach 90s for both grade 10 and 11, I've thought that if I CANNOT get a 90 in grade 10 I won't stand a chance in gr 11 and 12. usualy I have free time every weekday for an hour or two. (after ive done all my work ofcourse)

How do you reach the "90s" do you take extra courses/tutors/etc?

How to get involved with extracurriculars?

I'm in 11th grade and haven't been part of any clubs or sport teams at school, but I do want to get involved. I'm not athletic and I hate sports so joining a team is out. And joining a club is hard at my school because everyone stops going to the meetings after the first month so the only members left are the heads and their friends. To be fair most of the heads don't pay any attention to the people who want to join, they only want the credit that they are heads of a club.

Also I want to do some volunteering, but I have no idea where to look for opportunities. I live in Toronto, but I'm still so clueless on where to find volunteering opportunities. Should I go see guidance to see if they can help me find some places to volunteer?

Hi! I was just accepted to the commerce program and I don't really know anything about it. I was just wondering if anyone in the program could share a bit about it such as what the classes are like, how hard it is, how much flexibility you have to take the courses you want, and anything else you would find valuable to know. I have heard McGill is impossible so I am really worried about going! Thanks in advance.

U OF G VS UOTTAWA

I have gotten accepted to both schools for their music program and I'm wondering which one is a better fit for me. Academics is bottom line, but I know that I want to really enjoy my next four years, and that will definitely have a big impact on my success. i want to be somewhere with a really good atmosphere, I was also wondering what kind of people go to each universiy? Socially, what are the differences between guelph and ottawa?

So in case some of you didn't know, there are two facebook groups open for any Carleton applicants who will be attending or might be attending Carleton University 2015 for freshman year. I'm part of Westerns social group as well and the chat is BOOMING with conversation, where as Carletons is seriously lacking. So I just thought i'd post the links to the two groups in case any of you guys wanted to connect with other applicants, ask questions about residence or your program, introduce yourself ect.. One group is official and another group is not, i'm not the creator of either group I just felt the need to share this information :) here are the links..

Hey everyone!

I saw this thread last year and thought it was worth while to do! For anyone applying to 4 or 2 year programs.

1. Which school(s) are you applying to?
2. What other programs are you applying to as your back up?
3. What average are you aiming for your final year?
EXTRA - I want current Nursing students to be included as well! Tell us where you go, where you applied to and what your GPA in Grade 12 was or post secondary if thats what your doing right now. Also, a few pointers, tips and guidance is always great!

1. I want to go to McMaster (4 year), Queens (4 year or 2 year), Western (2 year), UofT
2. Nursing, and nothing else!
3. I had mid 80's in high school and currently have a 3.1 from Uoft B.A second year

So common guys, reveal yourselves! ;)
