Laurier vs. Mac vs. Guelph. (Business / commerce)

1 reply • Last reply: 7:03AM March 02, 2015 UTC by Anonymous
Accepted to Laurier and Acadia, waiting for : Mac commerce, Guelph Marketing mgmt. and St. F.X business. Long term I'm leaning towards a career in marketing or human resources. I'm encouraged by my acceptance to Laurier BUT ... am I a second class citizen there if I DON'T get in to the co-op program ??? In everyone's esteemed opinion, how do the above schools stack up for business/commerce ? I'll have a final admissions average of 90% or just shy of it. I didn't want to apply to Queen's (my brother is there, gotta go my own way !) or Western-Ivey (would rather have a 4 year business specific degree than a chance at a 2 year business degree). Your thoughts ???

Carleton University, Brock University or Mcmaster?

I am having a huge dilemma whether to go to Brock or Carleton. I've applied to Brock, Carleton, McMaster and Guelph but I don't really want to go to guelph anymore and McMaster is losing my interest.

Ive applied to Criminology and Criminal Justice in Concentration of Psychology at Carleton, Psychology and Socio at Brock (got accepted) and Socio at McMaster. If anyone knows details about these programs especially the one at Carleton, please tell me because it's a program that isn't available anywhere else. Ultimately, I want to do Criminology and Psychology.

*** I want to choose a school that has a great social life and night life in the city, cultural diversity is also important to me as well as an accepting community. I also like school spirit***

**** ANOTHER THING THAT IM TRYING TO FIND OUT ABOUT BUT I CANT SEEM TO IS THE DINING SERVICES AT THESE UNIVERSITIES, HOW IS THE FOOD SOMEONE TELL ME PLEASE.***

If anyone goes to any of these schools or has heard things about it please let me know! I want all the info I can get. Thanks guys!!

Regional SciTech Program - Does It Help?

1 reply • Last reply: 7:03AM March 02, 2015 UTC by Akshay Pall
Hello. Over the past few years, the Regional SciTech Program (by PEEL) has been implemented in two schools (Chinguacousy Secondary School, and Port Credit Secondary School). It is a program which has a larger focus on science and technology, and applies this to many of the normal academic courses (i.e. ICS, TEJ, physics, biology, etc.). Do you think a student in this program applying to university (i.e. engineering) will have a better chance to get in? Will this program affect their chances at all?

Carleton vs. Guelph-Humber Justice Studies?

Which school would be better for the program, Justice Studies? I like both schools, however if I were to go to Carleton, I would have to live on res whereas I would only be commuting to Guelph-Humber of approximately an hour and a half commute. But just which school is good for the program? :)

Is it a good program? This thing is I get a BA degree and everyone I talk to is saying that a BA degree isn't going to get me anywhere. I'm better off getting a BCOM at another less prestigious university. Any thoughts? Thanks (:

I am curious between the two. Which is better in your opinion?
Which one is more prominent between the two? Why?
Which is harder to get into?
Which is harder to maintain high marks?
Are employers more biased to pick their future workers from these schools? If so, which one?
Finally, if possible, what's your experience in these schools?

Just wanted to have an idea on what kind of average you need for UBC SAUDER out of high school. Please post in the following format if you have had any experience applying to SAUDER in previous years. Let's keep this thread nice and clean!

ACCEPTED OR REJECTED | DATE | AVERAGE | WHERE YOU ARE FROM (e.g BC)

an example will be:

ACCEPTED | Early March 2014 | 95% | BC

For all the other hopeful Sauderites like me, we can post in the follow format. I will start!

APPLIED and WAITING | JANUARY 2015 and so on| 94% | BC

I have my AEO status, and I think I'll be meeting all the progression requirements... am I guaranteed in? I know Ivey has the right to revoke any acceptance. But, AEO is technically a "conditional offer". Anyone know anything about this?

I am wanting a sociable residence where the students are not afraid to throw a party or just have fun while also no going crazy every single day.
I want a room mate and also private bathrooms if that was possible( coed is fine but prefer private)
I am leaning towards margad but they don't seem to have private washrooms

Admission Questions? Ask a Current UBC Student!

330 replies • Last reply: 7:03AM March 02, 2015 UTC by Anonymous
Hi guys,

I always remember finding this forum really useful back when I was applying for universities in 2012, and I'd like to offer you the opportunity to actually get some hard knowledge about admissions rather than just hearsay. Though I'm in Sauder, I can answer any questions regarding direct entry to all UBC programs, Sauder transfer applications, and general university stuff.

You should all also take a look at the holy grail of UBC admissions, specifically table 18 where all admission averages for all programs for entry in 2013W are outlined.

Hope to see you all at UBC in September!

Importance of Linux for UW Compsci

The recent post about a laptop for UW eng reminded me of something:

I heard from a few people that having linux or being able to run linux software is critical to passing certain courses at UW. Of course I can run software in a virtualbox, but its clunky and slow and uneffective.

Is it worth sideloading Linux onto my laptop? Or am I not going to need it at UW?

Late PSEs....

As the title says...
I recently just submitted my Commerce PSE at the time of 9:20pm PST time and forgot that it was already past midnight in Ontario. (Yes, quite stupid of me, I know.) But my extra-curricular PSE was handed in on time.

So does anyone know if Queens Commerce will still consider late PSE? Or will my application just be automatically skipped over? In case that they do still consider it, how greatly will this affect my chance of getting in?

Thank you!

ENG4U Online Course?

Would taking an ENG4U Online course during the school year be harder than taking an in-class ENG4U course?

I got a teacher who rarely gives marks higher than 75. Last year I got 93 in English, and now I'm struggling to maintain an 80, yet I need at least a high 80. I was wondering if I should drop out and switch to an online English 12 course, one month into the semester. Would that be possible? And would it be worth it?
