chance me for general sciences and computer sciences

How are my chances for getting into the general sciences and Computer Science program at UBC-Vancouver? These are my completed grade 12 semester 1 courses, with their grades.

 Pre-Calc 12: 95%
 Physics 12: 99%
Chemistry 12: 99%

I have english 12 this semester, and as it is my weakest course, I strive to attain a good mark in the course. Anyway, here is my english 11 mark, because from my understand UBC will use my Eng 11 mark.

English 11: 87%

If I were to get accepted, what mark should I aim in English 12, this semester?

Is it possible?

is it possible to withdraw an offer once you have accepted it? I became so impatient that I accepted UofT's offer because I felt so hopeless from getting admitted to my dream university in the US. Of course, I am so happy to have been admitted to UofT especially after a gap year but would there be any way to reverse what I did? In other words, to decline or to withdraw the offer? Will I have to contact the university? Any advice or help would be much appreciated!

Waterloo vs Alberta vs UBC: Co-op

0 replies • Posted: 7:03AM March 01, 2015 UTC
how's the co-op in each of these schools? I'm going for mechanical engineering. what are the usual kinds of jobs students get and what company?

I want to go to Waterloo since I've heard lots of good things but Alberta is a heck lot cheaper and gives more scholarships... I think UBC is cheaper too. I think I'll end up deciding mainly based on co-op though, since that's going to be a very important part of learning.

Has anyone taken any TDSB E-Summer School classes?

So I'll be going to grade 12 next year and I'll probably go for a science program at university so I'll have a pretty heavy workload next year. I want to get English over with so I'm thinking of taking it in the summer. Should I take ENG4U online during e-summer school or just regular summer school? E-summer school sounds more convenient but will universities prefer someone who took it in regular summer school?

Why are the requirements so low?

Hi, i'm currently in grade 10. I was looking at the programs offered at Guelph, and i was really interested in the Computer Science but why is it that the requirments are low? Like you are able to get in with a low 80/high 70 i believe...but at other universities they need you to be above 85% most of the time. Is it because Guelph is a bad university for sciences/engineering?

Also, if i were to get a science/engineering degree from Guelph, would the people hiring me look at the university reputation as well? Like for example, would I have a lesser chance of getting in compared to somebody who graduated from Mac or Waterloo?

Please let me know! Thanks :)

How to Choose the Right University for Me (Student Life, CO-OP, etc.)

Anonymous
1 reply • Last reply: 7:03AM March 01, 2015 UTC by Anonymous
First of all, allow me to introduce myself. I am a 12th Grade student with an average ranging from an 88-92 depending on what program and the specific courses they require. I was recently admitted to Laurier and Queens for Computer Science, which is a huge relief, just knowing I'm going somewhere next year. However, something has been troubling me for quite some time now and I guess I'm just looking for some guidance based on experience or what not. If anyone has any words of wisdom they'd like to share, or any current University students with regret, I would love to hear it if you had two minutes to tell me about them.

Anyway, I applied to various schools ranging from Western, to Waterloo, to U of T, Guelph, etc. I am not worried about getting accepted. I have a sweet semester for midterm marks and a few killer extra-cirrikculars that have blown a few professors away. However, what I am worried about, is choosing the right school for me.

Waterloo is an awesome school, with an awesome CO-OP program — and I understand that people are always telling me "you'll find fun wherever you go," but for the 7 people I have talked to about going to this school, not a single one had something positive to say. They had remarks ranging from extremely boring, to even, depressing, and they regret is a huge amount.

Western and Queens are both awesome schools, and are well known, have that University experience, etc. However, they lack a CO-OP program which is a requirement in the Computer Science and Software Engineering industry. Getting a job is all based on having experience, and CO-OP is crucial to this, as I understand.

Guelph has an awesome program, as well as a fantastic CO-OP setup, however the school is very well known and doesn't really gather to 'impress' as I've heard. The campus is awesome, and the student life seems great from when I visited, but the housing is apparently the worst in Ontario.

All the other schools I applied to are, again, fantastic schools, but lack in factors that bring down where I want to go.

Again, as I said, there is no easy answer to this. In the end, it's what I desire the most and is my decision. I'm just looking for some guidance from people who have lived through the experience of choosing, or from someone who has already figured it out. Because every school on that list is awesome, but lacks something. And I know I want to be happy and have that awesome highschool experience, but I also want to have an easier future to look forward to, with experience.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

105D to McMaster!!!

I am a 105D student and applying transfer to MAC this year. I have some questions:

Will MAC send out the offer for 105D as the same time as 101 current secondary school students?
MAC website said that they required B- current GPA, some program maybe higher, so if I have B+ current GPA, is that enough for social science?
Also I have 82s high school average including all the requirements, is that useful for decision making?

Someone got in MAC before as a transfer student? Could you mind to share your experience?

Thanks!!!!

I am having a huge dilemma whether to go to Brock or Carleton. I've applied to Brock, Carleton, McMaster and Guelph but I don't really want to go to guelph anymore and McMaster is losing my interest.

Ive applied to Criminology and Criminal Justice in Concentration of Psychology at Carleton, Psychology and Socio at Brock (got accepted) and Socio at McMaster. If anyone knows details about these programs especially the one at Carleton, please tell me because it's a program that isn't available anywhere else. Ultimately, I want to do Criminology and Psychology.

*** I want to choose a school that has a great social life and night life in the city, cultural diversity is also important to me as well as an accepting community. I also like school spirit***

**** ANOTHER THING THAT IM TRYING TO FIND OUT ABOUT BUT I CANT SEEM TO IS THE DINING SERVICES AT THESE UNIVERSITIES, HOW IS THE FOOD SOMEONE TELL ME PLEASE.***

If anyone goes to any of these schools or has heard things about it please let me know! I want all the info I can get. Thanks guys!!

Hi everyone!

So I this is a pretty stressful time for a lot of you, who are applying to business schools across Ontario, and just wanted to give back as this site helped me while I was choosing which school to go to. I currently go to Schulich, so feel free to ask questions about the student life, admission grades, extracurriculars, possible chances, and things like that! Good luck :)

ENG4U Online Course?

Would taking an ENG4U Online course during the school year be harder than taking an in-class ENG4U course?

I got a teacher who rarely gives marks higher than 75. Last year I got 93 in English, and now I'm struggling to maintain an 80, yet I need at least a high 80. I was wondering if I should drop out and switch to an online English 12 course, one month into the semester. Would that be possible? And would it be worth it?

Brock BAcc Co-op?

How good is this program? I applied and I got accepted last week, and tbh I only applied so I would fill out the 3 programs for the application. But after I got accepted, I've been leaning more towards this program, as it seems that you can get your CPA designation quicker (I believe, correct me if i'm wrong), and I also got into the co-op program so I would be able to gain some work experience while studying! The co-op is also guaranteed, as compared to the other schools I've applied to which aren't (Laurier)

With that being said, is this a good program to go into if I want to pursue my CPA designation?

I applied to Laurier and Schulich, where Laurier's co-op isn't guaranteed and Schulich has no co-op at all, and you have to find your own internships

I am truly scared that I don't get into the Life sciences program at U of T or the Medical Science program at Western. My marks aren't too great and I feel really really terrible :'(

These are my marks right now:
English - 78
Functions - 85
Chemistry- 82
French - 78

My average right now is an 81. This semester I have Biology, Calculus and Communications Technology. What marks do you think I would have to achieve to get into U of T or Western? Please help, I need motivation from you guys.
