Hey guys, I'm getting a little worried. I applied to UofT ECE and finished my SPF January 12 but my application status still says "Pending Review" and in the engineering portal under Application Received it is still blank. I'm wondering if there are any other Ontario applicants to ECE what the status of your applications are. Thanks!

I don't know what to pick. Laurier is the better school for business but co-op is competitive. zzz

How does McGill pick your top marks/courses for your average calculation if you are doing IB?

Anonymous

I am currently in my last semester of IB. I have just resubmitted my marks for the second round at McGill. However, I am still at a loss to understand which courses they select for the average calculation. I have marks for the end of each of the last three semesters, where some are slightly higher depending upon the term, yet they are marks for all the same courses. For example I have three math marks for Math SL ranging from 90-97? Will they use two of these math marks or do they just look at the course itself for IB?

Would they cancel my application due to this??

Thank you!

For Ontario admission requirements, the perquisites are English and Calc and then they say "80% in English and 85% in top 6 math course". What does this mean exactly? Does it mean Calc must be in your top 6 and you must have over 85? Or can only Adv. Functions be in your top 6 with over 85? Does it have to be both? Confused!!

Is it a good program? This thing is I get a BA degree and everyone I talk to is saying that a BA degree isn't going to get me anywhere. I'm better off getting a BCOM at another less prestigious university. Any thoughts? Thanks (:

Official Q&A with Ivey Admissions and Recruiting

Welcome to this thread where you can ask me anything about the HBA Program and the student experience for all years at Western and Ivey.

To provide you with some background, I recently graduated from the Honors Business Adminstration Program (HBA) this past year and currently working with the school as the HBA Recruiting Associate. I work closely with most areas of the school, including the admissions committee, career management and faculty.

Throughout my years at Western and Ivey I have been involved in a wide variety of activities, most of my time was consumed with residence life and student government; although I have dabbled in a number of club executive positions, intramural activities and a number of different student jobs on campus.

This would be a great forum to dispel some rumours about the program and clear up some of the myths about Ivey. I look forward to our discussions.

I am truly scared that I don't get into the Life sciences program at U of T or the Medical Science program at Western. My marks aren't too great and I feel really really terrible :'(

These are my marks right now:
English - 78
Functions - 85
Chemistry- 82
French - 78

My average right now is an 81. This semester I have Biology, Calculus and Communications Technology. What marks do you think I would have to achieve to get into U of T or Western? Please help, I need motivation from you guys.

Mac Vs Carleton

So uhm, I'm 100% sure I want to work with mental health as a profession so I thought getting the cognitive science degree @ Carleton would highlight that. The issue isn't that I'm actually debating Mac over Carleton, it's more convincing my parents, a Cognitive science degree vs BA in psych would potentially be better for my future. I told them I booked my tour to Carleton and ofc, I get the "what about McMaster?" If it isn't obvious, Mac is home and they want me to stay home. This thread isn't about school reputation or anything, just wanting to opinions. If you were in my position, would you just go to Mac?

What worries do/did you have going into university?

Anonymous
3 replies • Last reply: 7:03AM March 01, 2015 UTC by Anonymous
And how did you solve it?

For myself:
I was worried about taking courses that wouldn't work towards my degree. My program requirements changed twice during my first two years and I was super freaked out. I spoke to my program head about it and we sat down and checked to make sure I was on the right path and he pointed me towards the courses I would need for my last two years.

I was also worried, of course, about making friends. In my first year I didn't know many people, but in the year after that I started seeing the same faces again in my classes and ended up becoming friends with those people.

Thanks in advance.

HighSchool Regrets

To those of you who are either in your last year of high school or a high school alumni, what was your biggest regret during high school? I think it would be cool to compile a list out of curiosity AND to benefit younger high school students.

I regret not taking french through highschool (I stopped at grade 9). I probably would have been going into a different career/field had I taken french.

Entrance Scholarships (Is it possible to receive a higher amount with final marks?)

Anonymous

So I received an offer of admission awhile back in early January. With that, I was offered a scholarship. Is it possible to receive a higher amount with my final marks? I was accepted based on my grade 11 marks so is it possible for me to increase the scholarship money? I know that my marks are better this year. They're in the low 90s, and I predict that they'll stay that way till 2nd semester finals. BTW i received scholarships for 1,000 per year. Is it possible to increase it to 3,000 per year?

Carleton University, Brock University or Mcmaster?

I am having a huge dilemma whether to go to Brock or Carleton. I've applied to Brock, Carleton, McMaster and Guelph but I don't really want to go to guelph anymore and McMaster is losing my interest.

Ive applied to Criminology and Criminal Justice in Concentration of Psychology at Carleton, Psychology and Socio at Brock (got accepted) and Socio at McMaster. If anyone knows details about these programs especially the one at Carleton, please tell me because it's a program that isn't available anywhere else. Ultimately, I want to do Criminology and Psychology.

*** I want to choose a school that has a great social life and night life in the city, cultural diversity is also important to me as well as an accepting community. I also like school spirit***

**** ANOTHER THING THAT IM TRYING TO FIND OUT ABOUT BUT I CANT SEEM TO IS THE DINING SERVICES AT THESE UNIVERSITIES, HOW IS THE FOOD SOMEONE TELL ME PLEASE.***

If anyone goes to any of these schools or has heard things about it please let me know! I want all the info I can get. Thanks guys!!

Should I stay at home or leave? Help!

Hi, everyone. If everything goes according to plan, I'll be facing two options: to go to McMaster and stay at home, or go to Queen's and stay on residence.

My parents are paying for all my tuition, and my mom really would like me to stay as I would be saving them a lot of money. Also, if I were to attend McMaster, I will have my own car to drive and my parents will pay for all I need. They stated that at the end of the day, it's my choice, but I still feel extremely pressured to stay at home.

I personally would like to go to Queen's so I get the full experience and also would become independent. My parents are extremely strict and I feel as though my university experience would not reach its maximum potential if I were to stay at home. However, my mom says that I can "have fun when [I'm] finished school, and focus on [my] studies for now".

Advice?

Chances of getting in...anywhere??

Hi, so I sort of messed around first semester, and had to drop advanced functions and take it this semester. Because of this, I was unable to take calculus and my options for BBA/BCom programs I could apply to became quite limited. Here are my top six grades:
English- 90%
Challenge and Change- 90%
Families in Canada- 90%

Advanced Functions- 86% (as of right now)
Data Management- 85% (as of right now)
Canadian & World Issues- 93% (as of right now)

I know all of these questions are terribly repetitive, but I'm really worried about my university acceptances.
I applied to Laurier BBA, McMaster Business 1, Ottawa for Accounting w/co-op and I still haven't received a single acceptance. My guidance counselor assured me that this was due to my math marks being submitted later, but my mark in gr.11 functions was a 93, so I'm unsure why this is happening.

Should I be worried?

Hi everyone,
I just got accepted to Comp Sci at UTSG victoria college and am waiting for an offer for engineering.
I have heard rumours that UTSG is very hard to get a good GPA and because of this, impossible to go to graduate school.
I was wondering if i should avoid UTSG if i want to get a good GPA and attend a good graduate school.
Thanks!

Carleton vs. Guelph-Humber Justice Studies?

Which school would be better for the program, Justice Studies? I like both schools, however if I were to go to Carleton, I would have to live on res whereas I would only be commuting to Guelph-Humber of approximately an hour and a half commute. But just which school is good for the program? :)

Hey guys, i was thinking of applying to an arts program at Carleton such as political science but then i heard that political science is deemed as a "useless degree". Im about also thinking about human rights and Law at carleton.

So i would like to know whether Carleton is a good school for these undergraduate arts programs and if these degrees are considered good in terms of what i can do after i have completed them. (Job quality, variety etc.) Also feel free to let me know other good universities in Ontario which may be good for the majors i have mentioned
