McGill Fears

Hey, I am awaiting a response from McGill as I applied for Arts a little earlier on. My average is only 87% and I'm pretty worried. Has anyone heard back for Arts, or is anybody the same situation as me? What is your average? /:

How to get 90s in highschool?

8 replies • Last reply: 7:03AM March 04, 2015 UTC by Anonymous
Currently in grade 10, with an average of around 80s, I do my homework, study for tests, do everything the teacher assign, I never once in my life miss an assignment.

I am considered as a pre-ib student and I've heard grade 11 ib is very difficult, any ideas on how to reach 90s for both grade 10 and 11, I've thought that if I CANNOT get a 90 in grade 10 I won't stand a chance in gr 11 and 12. usualy I have free time every weekday for an hour or two. (after ive done all my work ofcourse)

How do you reach the "90s" do you take extra courses/tutors/etc?

Hi! I was just accepted to the commerce program and I don't really know anything about it. I was just wondering if anyone in the program could share a bit about it such as what the classes are like, how hard it is, how much flexibility you have to take the courses you want, and anything else you would find valuable to know. I have heard McGill is impossible so I am really worried about going! Thanks in advance.

Canadian Securities Course before university?

I am not informed about the CSC at all other than the fact that I know it makes inexperienced students more competitive for finance internships and that students take it after first/second year. I will be attending b-school this fall but will not have co-op in the first summer. However, I still want to find a relevant job. Will the CSC help me out? Is it even possible to complete before university? I will have 2 months in the summer free to study.

PHYSICS IN BOOKLETS????

Anonymous
1 reply • Last reply: 7:03AM March 04, 2015 UTC by John Lennon
I have a bit of a situation. I have applied to U of guelph and am pretty set on going there for science (although I haven't been accepted im confident my marks will be good enough). Anyways, I'm taking all three sciences and 2 maths and then I had religion and english as my other two. So I have 7 courses altogether and the plan was to use english, religion, bio, Chem, physics and functions for my grade 12 marks because I don't feel like my calc midterm will be that good. But I HATE physics. Everything about that class is honestly killing me. The teacher, the material, everything about it doesn't interest me in any way and sitting there and listening to it makes me cringe and stresses me out. I've though about dropping it and taking physics in booklets (independent study) just so it's less unbearable. Just so you know I have no plans of going into physics or anything of that matter but I will need to take it first year because it's just a requirement at guelph for all science programs. Do you think It would be a smart move to drop the course? It would take a lot of stress off of my back and will allow me to focus on bio and calculus a little more WHILE getting me a better mark. I know it's kind of like cheating your way through but I only need 2/3 sciences to get into guelph. Only reason I'm even considering taking the course at all is so I have some sort of background for when I get to university. Let me know what you think!

Waterloo Social Life

So far I've been accepted to Waterloo Systems Design Engineering, Queens Engineering, and Mcgill ECE, and I can't decide where I want to go.

For me personally, I want to go somewhat into the software industry (may change), so from what I've heard Waterloo has an incredible co-op program which can help me accomplish this through systems design. At the same time though I love to socialize, party (turnup), and be involved in extra curriculars, so from what I've heard Waterloo is not really the place to go :(.

Queens and McGill both have awesome social scenes, better than Waterloo (so I hear) so I really don't know what to choose! I want to get the most out of my 4 years at Uni ( 5 at UW ) but I also want to land a killer job after! Any thoughts on what I should do? :/ Thanks!

PS - Since I'm going into engineering it's not like I'll have all the time to party anyway, so at most I'll go out once ir twice a week. At UW I'll have Laurier (got some buds over there) and the town so I cant see it being that bad. Let me know what you think!

I have the complementary hours (40), but I am thinking of getting more hours and volunteering in hospitals, libraries, etc.
I am just wondering if doing that would help me get into a university.

Any disadvantages to Track One at Uoft?

8 replies • Last reply: 7:03AM March 04, 2015 UTC by Anonymous
I feel like I'm pretty sure about what discipline I'd look to go into for engineering (mechanical), but of course, a lot could change in the coming months/years…so Track One is beginning to appeal to me.

Just wondering: can anyone think of any disadvantages to Track One? Are there any real, tangible benefits to starting in one of the regular engineering streams? I mean, all of the classes are basically the same, right?

University of Toronto Engineering Student - Ask Me Anything

Hey everyone! I started this thread to answer questions from the potential class of 2017, and to keep all of the University of Toronto-related items in one place.

I'm a first year engineering student at the University of Toronto and I'm currently studying electrical/computer engineering (same courses as TrackOne). I commute to school every day, so I can't really answer that many questions about residence, but I'm sure others will be willing to chime in on that.

Without further ado, ask away!

An "Update" on Admissions to Uoft Engineering

Just letting you guys know that I emailed an admissions person at Uoft and they said that offers will be given out on a rolling basis. I don't think they've done this in previous years…so yeah.

Do with this information what you will. Remember that this means that not all offers will come out on the same day. If someone gets in before you do, just keep checking your email every day!

I'm thinking about Carleton's global law and justice program, wondering if anyone else is going into it or is in it currently!

How hard is the program? Is it enjoyable? And how hard are the language courses? I don't speak another language besides english so I'm interested in taking german.

Hey everyone!

I saw this thread last year and thought it was worth while to do! For anyone applying to 4 or 2 year programs.

1. Which school(s) are you applying to?
2. What other programs are you applying to as your back up?
3. What average are you aiming for your final year?
EXTRA - I want current Nursing students to be included as well! Tell us where you go, where you applied to and what your GPA in Grade 12 was or post secondary if thats what your doing right now. Also, a few pointers, tips and guidance is always great!

1. I want to go to McMaster (4 year), Queens (4 year or 2 year), Western (2 year), UofT
2. Nursing, and nothing else!
3. I had mid 80's in high school and currently have a 3.1 from Uoft B.A second year

So common guys, reveal yourselves! ;)

Admission Questions? Ask a Current UBC Student!

337 replies • Last reply: 7:03AM March 04, 2015 UTC by Anonymous
Hi guys,

I always remember finding this forum really useful back when I was applying for universities in 2012, and I'd like to offer you the opportunity to actually get some hard knowledge about admissions rather than just hearsay. Though I'm in Sauder, I can answer any questions regarding direct entry to all UBC programs, Sauder transfer applications, and general university stuff.

You should all also take a look at the holy grail of UBC admissions, specifically table 18 where all admission averages for all programs for entry in 2013W are outlined.

Hope to see you all at UBC in September!
