3rd Year Brock BBA/BAcc Co-op student, ask me anything!

36 replies • Last reply: 7:03AM March 04, 2015 UTC by Hrad

I'm basically always on here so figured might as well make one of these and help out any prospective students.

- First 2 years spent as BBA Co-op student, secured first coop term through BBA
- Transferred into BAcc Co-op after 2 years
- Currently on co-op

You kinda get the best of both worlds since I have been in all (both) the programs offered at the Goodman School of Business!

And since I know these are gonna be popular Qs:

- Avg (both major and overall) ~80%
- ECs: Leadership position in a club, some entrepreneurial stuff, sports stuff
- Work XP: General accounting internship at no-name organization doing very basic stuff, manual labour

Since attending Brock, I have received interview requests from (in no particular order):
RBC x2, Canadian Tire Financial Services, Imperial Oil (Alberta), Ontario Securities Commission (CPA Approved), Mercedes-Benz Financial Services, Big 4 Audit (Toronto), Suncor (Alberta),, and CPP Investment Board.

Note: These were not all co-op positions, some were just summer internship interviews.

- Rejected from BAcc Co-op
- Accepted to BBA Co-op with 83.5% top 6

So feel free to ask me anything and I'll try to answer your Qs as best as I can!

*Even if nobody has posted in this topic for a while, feel free to do so, chances are I'm still lurking on here

Hey everyone!

I saw this thread last year and thought it was worth while to do! For anyone applying to 4 or 2 year programs.

1. Which school(s) are you applying to?
2. What other programs are you applying to as your back up?
3. What average are you aiming for your final year?
EXTRA - I want current Nursing students to be included as well! Tell us where you go, where you applied to and what your GPA in Grade 12 was or post secondary if thats what your doing right now. Also, a few pointers, tips and guidance is always great!

1. I want to go to McMaster (4 year), Queens (4 year or 2 year), Western (2 year), UofT
2. Nursing, and nothing else!
3. I had mid 80's in high school and currently have a 3.1 from Uoft B.A second year

So common guys, reveal yourselves! ;)

Which is better George Brown or Centennial for the RN nursing collaborative program with Ryerson?

0 replies • Posted: 7:03AM March 04, 2015 UTC
Recently I have been accepted into both campuses for the RN nursing collaborative program. Centennial is a very close commute to me as oppose to George Brown, but I love the Lakeshore feel of the George Brown campus. I heard that the curriculum is very similar in all three campuses. My first choice is still the Ryerson campus downtown, but I'm still waiting for an acceptance there, since it's still early. But I'm wondering what are the experiences like in both campuses? Facility wise, socially and of course the learning experience. How are the professors? How is student life at these campuses?

mcgill desautels commerce

Hi! I was just accepted to the commerce program and I don't really know anything about it. I was just wondering if anyone in the program could share a bit about it such as what the classes are like, how hard it is, how much flexibility you have to take the courses you want, and anything else you would find valuable to know. I have heard McGill is impossible so I am really worried about going! Thanks in advance.

Emails from universities?

2 replies • Last reply: 7:03AM March 04, 2015 UTC by Kastler J. Louis
I know this might sound stupid, but is it normal for students not to get emails from universities even when they are accepted? I was accepted to SFU for a while, I didn't realize until the letter showed up and the site told me I was accepted. Same with University of Toronto, I didn't get any email but their site lists me as admitted.

Hey guys, I'm getting a little worried. I applied to UofT ECE and finished my SPF January 12 but my application status still says "Pending Review" and in the engineering portal under Application Received it is still blank. I'm wondering if there are any other Ontario applicants to ECE what the status of your applications are. Thanks!

So I've been accepted to UofT's social sciences and while I am happy, I would like to hear your opinion (i.e. pros and cons) regarding UofT. As for cons, please give me reasons other than 'it's soo hard'

Also, how's st mikes? Do students from st mike face some sort of discrimination because they belong to a 'party' school? Would the atmosphere pose some put pressure on students who aren't necessarily party-goers?

Do I have a chance at getting into UBC Science?

5 replies • Last reply: 7:03AM March 04, 2015 UTC by Ashkan Akbari
Hi there, I applied for UBC Van General Science and I'm so worried about getting in! My grade 11 grades were as follows:

Physics 11: 89
Chem 11: 96
AP English 11: 95
French 11: 86
Precalc 11: 86
Social Studies 11: 97
(Those are my academic courses, I didn't count the electives)

Grade 12 marks:

Bio 12: 94
Chem 12: 89
Precal 12: 85
AP English: 98

That is my top 4. By the time I self report I'm hoping to go up a couple percent in Bio and possibly Chem because extra credit is available and teachers at my school will take off single tests u did badly on if the rest of your mark is consistently good to boost us for self reporting, but right now my average is 92%. As for my ECs, I listed being a team leader for a hospital volunteer program, being a lifeguard/instructor and swim coach, starting a business and online store to raise money for Science World and becoming a recognized donor, playing in the school band for 7 years and being a section leader, and being a part of the Future Science Leaders program at science world and conducting research with professors from UBC. Do you think I have a chance? I really am hoping to get my average up to 93ish. :(

Hey guys,
I'm a first year AFM student, and I've just completed my first term! I went through what you guys are going through last year so I know a lot of you guys might be stressing out about applications or have many questions to ask.

Feel free to ask my anything, and I'll try my best to answer!

*All my answers here are based on my knowledge and opinions, I'm not here as an official rep of the University of Waterloo! Just a few year students trying to offer some help :)

EDIT: I'll try my best to answer you guys as soon as I can, but keep in mind that I have my readings/assignments/midterms to do too, and doing well in school should always be a top priority!
Thanks for your patience :)

Just got waitlisted for sciences at UBC... is it all over? (IB)

16 replies • Last reply: 7:03AM March 04, 2015 UTC by Leo Huang

I've had my heart set on UBC for quite a while now, and then just this afternoon I got the news that I was waitlisted on their student portal.

"We have evaluated your application and due to the competitive nature of your program, we are not able to offer you admission. Your application is currently wait-listed. Any changes to your application and wait-list status will be noted here and a final decision will be available to you by June 15th. Please note that a large number of wait-listed candidates do not receive offers of admission, and we encourage you to make alternate plans accordingly."

I'm wondering if anyone could tell me what my chances are of getting accepted, if at all. I'm a IB diploma student with a total predicted mark of 33. My predicted mark breakdown is:
6 - Chemistry SL, Geography HL
5 - Math SL, Spanish SL (final), English Lit. HL
4 - Physics HL (Trying hard to bring this up - is this mark the main cause of me being waitlisted?)
with 2 Predicted marks for TOK & EE.

Does anyone know of IB students who got accepted with around a 33 predicted? I realise that their website has listed a "recommended" average of 29-32 for admission, and I'd like to think my PP was strong (Good ECs, but who knows, since it's relative scoring). My waitlist message doesn't even say the "Strong candidate", which it appears a lot of others have.

UTM Forensic Science program?

0 replies • Posted: 7:03AM March 04, 2015 UTC
So I applied to University of Toronto's forensic science program at Missisauga and I got in. I've always been really into the area (not inspired by CSI, I haven't seen the show in my life), but I heard it's an area where it's tough to get jobs in. I also wanted to specialize in forensic chemistry and I don't know if they'd offer any internships or co-ops with that area. Any ideas if this is a good area to go into? I also got into criminology at SFU and will likely get into food and nutrition (dietitian studies) at UBC. Any tips are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

McMaster Business I admission question!

1 reply • Last reply: 7:03AM March 04, 2015 UTC by Kastler J. Louis

I applied to McMaster Business 1 and here are my marks:

Law - 95
English - 85
Pre-Calc - 67 (OUCH)
Foods - 96
Chemistry - 74 (OUCH)
Computer Science - 95

Since I'm a grade 12 student coming out of Saskatchewan, I'm assuming they'll take my top 5 marks including pre-reqs which brings my average to 87.4%. I know it's not as good as it could have been, but I was just wondering will this be considered a good enough average? Do they use Foods as a class for the average?

I also applied to Western University Management and Organizational Studies (BMOS) so if anyone has input on that I'd really appreciate it :)
