Are my marks too low for university?

Anonymous
0 replies • Posted: 7:03AM March 01, 2015 UTC
I am truly scared that I don't get into the Life sciences program at U of T or the Medical Science program at Western. My marks aren't too great and I feel really really terrible :'(

These are my marks right now:
English - 78
Functions - 85
Chemistry- 82
French - 78

My average right now is an 81. This semester I have Biology, Calculus and Communications Technology. What marks do you think I would have to achieve to get into U of T or Western? Please help, I need motivation from you guys.

For some reason it says anonymous, but if you see Devon Anderson, that's me posting!

Hey everyone,

I'm currently at Western in my first year in medical sciences! Feel free to ask me anything about the program, and I'll try to help with anything else academic related.

I'm also living in residence, and I'm residence sophing next year, so feel free to ask me about that as well :)

I'm very involved with the school, so you can ask me about: SAO, residence life, volunteering on/off campus, clubs, council, resources at Western, Oweek...anything!

Laurier BBA Acceptances?

Hey, so awhile back I got an email from Laurier explaining that acceptances will go out in 3 phases, where the second phase happens in march/april based on a combination of Gr11/12 marks. I was wondering if its the top 6 marks out of the gr11/12 marks, even if let's say I have 2 maths in my top mark, will they count both or just one? Sorry if this is confusing to understand, lol

U of T - Life Science Program ...admissions details please

5 replies • Last reply: 7:03AM March 01, 2015 UTC by Anonymous
Firstly, I was wondering what kind of an average would somewhat guarantee you admission into Life Science(Human Biology...to be specific (if that matters)) ...I have checked the website and all but I feel like I'd be more comfortable with feedback from people that have gotten accepted, already.
Secondly, how do scholarships at u of t work ...I just dont get it due to it being so complicated on the website :/ ... I'd really appreciate some cut-off marks and some details on how much money you get for what cut-off...
Thirdly, I would also like to know about the residence scholarships at u of t and there cut-offs and money ranges.
Lastly, I honestly dont get it ...so I've heard that universities only look at ur top 6 for grade 12... but what about grade 11(for early acceptance) is it also just the top 6 for it or is it all the grades(for grade 11).

By answering these questions, you'd be relieving me of a WHOLE LOT of pressure...I'd appreciate every possible answer I get :) ...thanks a lot, much appreciated!!!

Oh and by the way ...does taking the "recommended" prerequisites(like physics for example) help them consider you more ...in any way :/ ...

St. George campus ...sorry forgot to mention that earlier

I got accepted to the International Management (BComm with Co-op). I was wondering how the university is. Is it difficult to maintain a high GPA? How is the campus spirit? Just information about the program and the university in general.
Thank you in advance!

I am having a huge dilemma whether to go to Brock or Carleton. I've applied to Brock, Carleton, McMaster and Guelph but I don't really want to go to guelph anymore and McMaster is losing my interest.

Ive applied to Criminology and Criminal Justice in Concentration of Psychology at Carleton, Psychology and Socio at Brock (got accepted) and Socio at McMaster. If anyone knows details about these programs especially the one at Carleton, please tell me because it's a program that isn't available anywhere else. Ultimately, I want to do Criminology and Psychology.

*** I want to choose a school that has a great social life and night life in the city, cultural diversity is also important to me as well as an accepting community. I also like school spirit***

**** ANOTHER THING THAT IM TRYING TO FIND OUT ABOUT BUT I CANT SEEM TO IS THE DINING SERVICES AT THESE UNIVERSITIES, HOW IS THE FOOD SOMEONE TELL ME PLEASE.***

If anyone goes to any of these schools or has heard things about it please let me know! I want all the info I can get. Thanks guys!!

Queen's Subsequent Offers of Admission

Hi all,

Just wondering how submitting my PSE after the Feb. 15 deadline (my grandmother passed away after a long haul with cancer 4 days prior to the deadline) is going to effect my chances of getting into Queens. As of right now, I have an 80 average (applying into the Arts), but am redoing English (grandmother was very ill and missed my summative, so i dropped from 85, to 75) to get a higher mark, as well as 3 other courses which i intend to get 90's in. What would the process be like; would the admissions committee wait until they received my second semester mid-terms to make a decision, or would they reject me for not meeting the Eng. cut off range immediately

My marks as of right now are:
English: 75%
Canadian History: 88%
Art: 88%
Co-op: 92%
Business: 75%
Law: 73%
Politics: 82%

The courses I'm doing now:

English: going to go ape crap and get 90+
Canadian Fam.: will most likely have a 94 at midterm
Classics: 96 at midterm
Business Management: 90 at midterm

Really stressing out here, so thanks in advance for you help

Cheers

ENG4U Online Course?

Anonymous
0 replies • Posted: 7:03AM March 01, 2015 UTC
Would taking an ENG4U Online course during the school year be harder than taking an in-class ENG4U course?

I got a teacher who rarely gives marks higher than 75. Last year I got 93 in English, and now I'm struggling to maintain an 80, yet I need at least a high 80. I was wondering if I should drop out and switch to an online English 12 course, one month into the semester. Would that be possible? And would it be worth it?

Acceptance to Queen's without sending in the PSE

So, I heard that a bunch of people got accepted to Queen's without submitting a PSE. Does this mean that if you don't get that offer by the deadline (March 1st), and you send one in late (can you do that?) or not at all, you're not going to be considered regardless of your marks?

How is Health Studies at Waterloo?

0 replies • Posted: 7:03AM March 01, 2015 UTC
Hi,
So I'm having a hard time deciding which program I should accept, I'm leaning towards health studies because I've heard it's great for applying to health related graduate schools later on. If anyone here is taking it, let me know what your personal view is and how you're finding it. Is it a big mark drop compared to grade 12? A few people told me they're getting grades similar to what they had in high school, but I thought I'd get a few more opinions.

Also, how are the professors? Are they willing to sit down with you and help if you're struggling with something? I've heard the professors are tough but then again that's based off only a few opinions.

Any info would be great.
Thanks.

Do universities look beyond the top 6 average?

Anonymous
4 replies • Last reply: 7:03AM March 01, 2015 UTC by Matthew Wilson
Do they look at which courses you took that might influence the average? Also, does every program application have a supplementary application (that you can build a profile, include ECs...) I have heard that they do not look "fondly" upon summer school courses, but then again, it could just be hearsay; what would "fondly" mean anyway?

Does anyone have any concrete information?

Thanks :)

For Ontario admission requirements, the perquisites are English and Calc and then they say "80% in English and 85% in top 6 math course". What does this mean exactly? Does it mean Calc must be in your top 6 and you must have over 85? Or can only Adv. Functions be in your top 6 with over 85? Does it have to be both? Confused!!

Do universities look for overall or individual averages?

Im trying to get into the engineering field, comp or software and i looked at Uwaterloo (open to other universities too) it says i need 70s for their pre reqs, but ive also heard people saying they are taking easy courses so their overall average is boosted and i dont know if i should be more focused on the pre req courses to be high or my total average, i can either take a spare or an easy course

Hey everyone!

I saw this thread last year and thought it was worth while to do! For anyone applying to 4 or 2 year programs.

1. Which school(s) are you applying to?
2. What other programs are you applying to as your back up?
3. What average are you aiming for your final year?
EXTRA - I want current Nursing students to be included as well! Tell us where you go, where you applied to and what your GPA in Grade 12 was or post secondary if thats what your doing right now. Also, a few pointers, tips and guidance is always great!

1. I want to go to McMaster (4 year), Queens (4 year or 2 year), Western (2 year), UofT
2. Nursing, and nothing else!
3. I had mid 80's in high school and currently have a 3.1 from Uoft B.A second year

So common guys, reveal yourselves! ;)
