Queen's Subsequent Offers of Admission

Hi all,

Just wondering how submitting my PSE after the Feb. 15 deadline (my grandmother passed away after a long haul with cancer 4 days prior to the deadline) is going to effect my chances of getting into Queens. As of right now, I have an 80 average (applying into the Arts), but am redoing English (grandmother was very ill and missed my summative, so i dropped from 85, to 75) to get a higher mark, as well as 3 other courses which i intend to get 90's in. What would the process be like; would the admissions committee wait until they received my second semester mid-terms to make a decision, or would they reject me for not meeting the Eng. cut off range immediately

My marks as of right now are:
English: 75%
Canadian History: 88%
Art: 88%
Co-op: 92%
Business: 75%
Law: 73%
Politics: 82%

The courses I'm doing now:

English: going to go ape crap and get 90+
Canadian Fam.: will most likely have a 94 at midterm
Classics: 96 at midterm
Business Management: 90 at midterm

Really stressing out here, so thanks in advance for you help

Cheers

How is Health Studies at Waterloo?

0 replies • Posted: 7:03AM March 01, 2015 UTC
Hi,
So I'm having a hard time deciding which program I should accept, I'm leaning towards health studies because I've heard it's great for applying to health related graduate schools later on. If anyone here is taking it, let me know what your personal view is and how you're finding it. Is it a big mark drop compared to grade 12? A few people told me they're getting grades similar to what they had in high school, but I thought I'd get a few more opinions.

Also, how are the professors? Are they willing to sit down with you and help if you're struggling with something? I've heard the professors are tough but then again that's based off only a few opinions.

Any info would be great.
Thanks.

Do universities look beyond the top 6 average?

Anonymous

Do they look at which courses you took that might influence the average? Also, does every program application have a supplementary application (that you can build a profile, include ECs...) I have heard that they do not look "fondly" upon summer school courses, but then again, it could just be hearsay; what would "fondly" mean anyway?

Does anyone have any concrete information?

Thanks :)

For Ontario admission requirements, the perquisites are English and Calc and then they say "80% in English and 85% in top 6 math course". What does this mean exactly? Does it mean Calc must be in your top 6 and you must have over 85? Or can only Adv. Functions be in your top 6 with over 85? Does it have to be both? Confused!!

Do universities look for overall or individual averages?

Im trying to get into the engineering field, comp or software and i looked at Uwaterloo (open to other universities too) it says i need 70s for their pre reqs, but ive also heard people saying they are taking easy courses so their overall average is boosted and i dont know if i should be more focused on the pre req courses to be high or my total average, i can either take a spare or an easy course

Acceptance to Queen's without sending in the PSE

So, I heard that a bunch of people got accepted to Queen's without submitting a PSE. Does this mean that if you don't get that offer by the deadline (March 1st), and you send one in late (can you do that?) or not at all, you're not going to be considered regardless of your marks?

Hey everyone!

I saw this thread last year and thought it was worth while to do! For anyone applying to 4 or 2 year programs.

1. Which school(s) are you applying to?
2. What other programs are you applying to as your back up?
3. What average are you aiming for your final year?
EXTRA - I want current Nursing students to be included as well! Tell us where you go, where you applied to and what your GPA in Grade 12 was or post secondary if thats what your doing right now. Also, a few pointers, tips and guidance is always great!

1. I want to go to McMaster (4 year), Queens (4 year or 2 year), Western (2 year), UofT
2. Nursing, and nothing else!
3. I had mid 80's in high school and currently have a 3.1 from Uoft B.A second year

So common guys, reveal yourselves! ;)

Should I stay at home or leave? Help!

Hi, everyone. If everything goes according to plan, I'll be facing two options: to go to McMaster and stay at home, or go to Queen's and stay on residence.

My parents are paying for all my tuition, and my mom really would like me to stay as I would be saving them a lot of money. Also, if I were to attend McMaster, I will have my own car to drive and my parents will pay for all I need. They stated that at the end of the day, it's my choice, but I still feel extremely pressured to stay at home.

I personally would like to go to Queen's so I get the full experience and also would become independent. My parents are extremely strict and I feel as though my university experience would not reach its maximum potential if I were to stay at home. However, my mom says that I can "have fun when [I'm] finished school, and focus on [my] studies for now".

Advice?

Carleton University, Brock University or Mcmaster?

I am having a huge dilemma whether to go to Brock or Carleton. I've applied to Brock. Carleton, McMaster and Guelph but I don't really want to go to guelph anymore and McMaster is losing my interest.

Ive applied to Criminology and Criminal Justice in Concentration of Psychology at Carleton, Psychology and Socio at Brock (got accepted) and Socio at McMaster. If anyone knows details about these programs especially the one at Carleton, please tell me because it's a program that isn't available anywhere else. Ultimately, I want to do Criminology and Psychology.

*** I want to choose a school that has a great social life and night life in the city (I'm a pretty turnt girl), cultural diversity is also important to me as well as an accepting community despite who you are. I also like school spirit***

**** ANOTHER THING THAT IM TRYING TO FIND OUT ABOUT BUT I CANT SEEM TO IS THE FOOD AT THESE UNIVERSITIES, HOW IS THE FOOD SOMEONE TELL ME PLEASE... I LOVE SUSHI :)***

If anyone goes to any of these schools or has heard things about it please let me know! I want all the info I can get. Thanks guys!!

Getting better at Trig

I'm preparing for the Euclid and I feel confident in all areas except trig. For some reason, it's one area of math that's never stuck with me, and I find myself constantly forgetting the formulas and laws needed to solve basic trig problems. I'm attempting this problem:

http://i.imgur.com/p9GCt2K.png

I've gotten as far as labeling the sides root(89), x, and x - 3, but I don't know what to do after that. Am I supposed to try to solve x first? Theta? Tan(theta)? I don't know how to solve any of them.

I can find the solution to the above problem online easily, what I'm more interested in is a way to get better at this sort of stuff. Something like an online course teaching trig at this sort of level, or a textbook, or something? I'm not sure, if you guys have any suggestions let me know.

Thank you!

Hi everyone,
I'm applying to Engineering at U of T and have to pick a college for residence. Right now University, Innis, and New are my top 3 choices, but not sure what order to put them in.
Any thoughts? Food, sense of community, rooms, etc -- anything is appreciated.
Also, I hear you have to rank Innis 1st on OUAC but I didn't every see that option when I applied on OUAC... is this true?
Thanks!

UW, UofT, Rye Eng

so I applied to mostly life sci (and 3 eng programs), but now i realize i probably want to do engineering, I have already applied to UW biomed eng, UofT electrical eng, and Rye biomed eng (accepted), and my grades are only mid 80s.. can bring up to high 80s (english bringing me down a LOT). Sciences and maths are 90s, but I derped my chem exam.

My chances seem really, really low for UW and UT, but I hear bad things about Ryerson.. how are they? and is their Internship program any good? I heard only 20% or so of their students get an internship? and how are internships for biomed students specifically?
I'd rather stay in Toronto, unless I go to some spectacular program (such as UW).

Do people go into Consulting right out of undergrad??

So I've always been confused about this. On employment reports of undergrad schools like Ivey, Mcgill, queens etc, it shows percentage of people that went into consulting. Is this right out of undergrad? or is it long term surveys.

So my question is do people go into consulting right away or do you need experience first to consult

Any International Development Students???

0 replies • Posted: 7:03AM March 01, 2015 UTC
I'm currently in grade 11 and interested in pursuing a degree in international development studies. I'm curious if anyone who's studying it now or also interested in studying it in the future could share some info.

Any input on on schools? I'm considering Carleton, UofT Scarborough, Queen's, and Trent.

What courses did you take in high school to prepare you for international development courses and what were your marks (if you don't mind me asking)?

Do you like your program?

Thanks so much!

Cut off for Laurier BBA? Second Round of Acceptances?

Anonymous

I'm hoping to get in for the second round of acceptances for Laurier BBA, which is based on a combination of your best 6 11/12 U/M courses, of which have to include a minimum of 3 12U/M courses. I've calculated my average and it should be a 88.83%. I know Laurier doesn't round up marks, but do you think I have a chance at getting in for second round??

Share your grade 12 day-to-day, week-to-week, or month-to-month progress here!

Purpose:

1. Keep the SAF alive.
2. It is important to know where we exactly stand and how we are doing in comparison to our peers and competition.

So...

- Have you lost marks yet?
- How many perfects did you receive?
- What mark do you have right now in your courses? [if not given an update, assumption... not necessarily be exact!]
- What're you getting or what did you get in the recent quizzes/tests/assignments?

MARKS MARKS MARKS... AS GRADE 12 PROGRESSES....!!!...

Additional...
- What kinda ECs/volunteering/work are you involved in?
- What are you doing to make your supplementary application stand out?
- How are you dealing with "grade 12" stress?
