An "Update" on Admissions to Uoft Engineering

0 replies • Posted: 7:03AM March 04, 2015 UTC
Just letting you guys know that I emailed an admissions person at Uoft and they said that offers will be given out on a rolling basis. I don't think they've done this in previous years…so yeah.

Do with this information what you will. Remember that this means that not all offers will come out on the same day. If someone gets in before you do, just keep checking your email every day!

U of T said I needed to maintain my grades or else they will withdraw their offer. If i had 92% for first term, would a drop within 5% be ok?

Any disadvantages to Track One at Uoft?

I feel like I'm pretty sure about what discipline I'd look to go into for engineering (mechanical), but of course, a lot could change in the coming months/years…so Track One is beginning to appeal to me.

Just wondering: can anyone think of any disadvantages to Track One? Are there any real, tangible benefits to starting in one of the regular engineering streams? I mean, all of the classes are basically the same, right?

Uottawa or Carleton?

I have been accepted to both uottawa and carleton for criminology. I love the city of ottawa and want to go there, but I can't decide which one to go to. Which school is better for criminology? And which school has more of a social scene? I want to go to a school where there is friendly people, a good campus atmosphere, and good parties.

I'm not too sure if a thread like this already exists, and I apologize if it does, but here it is.

I haven't seen many threads for Health Sciences this year. I wanted to create a thread that would act as a general go-to-place for discussion. We're all applying, why not ease the stress and just let loose (of course, no spilling your answers! That would be a mess!)

Good luck to everyone applying this year!

Waterloo Social Life

So far I've been accepted to Waterloo Systems Design Engineering, Queens Engineering, and Mcgill ECE, and I can't decide where I want to go.

For me personally, I want to go somewhat into the software industry (may change), so from what I've heard Waterloo has an incredible co-op program which can help me accomplish this through systems design. At the same time though I love to socialize, party (turnup), and be involved in extra curriculars, so from what I've heard Waterloo is not really the place to go :(.

Queens and McGill both have awesome social scenes, better than Waterloo (so I hear) so I really don't know what to choose! I want to get the most out of my 4 years at Uni ( 5 at UW ) but I also want to land a killer job after! Any thoughts on what I should do? :/ Thanks!

PS - Since I'm going into engineering it's not like I'll have all the time to party anyway, so at most I'll go out once ir twice a week. At UW I'll have Laurier (got some buds over there) and the town so I cant see it being that bad. Let me know what you think!

Do Universities look at the difficulty of the course?

0 replies • Posted: 7:03AM March 03, 2015 UTC
So I'm currently a Grade 12 student, and I was just wondering about how Universities look at courses. I took Grade 12 Physics and Grade 12 chemistry. My average is definitely not as high as it could have been if I had taken only business courses. It is currently sitting at around 89% and will be around 90 to 91% for my top six.

I have applied to business programs, and am wondering at how they screen the averages for applicants. Do universities look at the difficulty of the course (like physics compared to business leadership) and your mark, or do they just look at your top 6 average?

***Was debating between engineering and business, which is why I took science course (yes, i do not wish to pursue engineering anymore)

Loyalist/Brock Collaborative Nursing Program !!!!

Hi, I am looking into applying next year for the loyalist/brock nursing program and I have a few questions:
1. What average do they accept you with? (If you are in the program currently, what did you get accepted with?)
2. Is entry competitive?
3. Would it be better to do the Loyalist/Brock collaborative program or the 4 years at brock for nursing?

Carleton University, Brock University or Mcmaster?

21 replies • Last reply: 7:03AM March 03, 2015 UTC by Anna Verdillo
I am having a huge dilemma whether to go to Brock or Carleton. I've applied to Brock, Carleton, McMaster and Guelph but I don't really want to go to guelph anymore and McMaster is losing my interest.

Ive applied to Criminology and Criminal Justice in Concentration of Psychology at Carleton, Psychology and Socio at Brock (got accepted) and Socio at McMaster. If anyone knows details about these programs especially the one at Carleton, please tell me because it's a program that isn't available anywhere else. Ultimately, I want to do Criminology and Psychology.

*** I want to choose a school that has a great social life and night life in the city, cultural diversity is also important to me as well as an accepting community. I also like school spirit***

If anyone goes to any of these schools or has heard things about it please let me know! I want all the info I can get. Thanks guys!!

Thanks for the answers guys, keep em coming I want all the opinions I can get plus I'm sure it'll help someone else debating the same thing.

Extremely stressed out and worried...

1 reply • Last reply: 7:03AM March 03, 2015 UTC by yWE TALK
Hello everyone. I'm an OUAC 105D applicant, a Canadian citizen currently living abroad and studying in an accredited US-system high school, and I have applied to the following universities:

University of Toronto Mississauga (Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics)
University of Toronto St. George [Trinity College] (Life Sciences)
University of Toronto Scarborough (Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics)
York University (Kinesiolgy)
York University (Computer Science)
Ryerson University (Computer Science)
University of Waterloo (Life Sciences, Honours)
University of Western Ontario (Medical Sciences)

I applied around the end of December - early January to these universities, and I submitted all my documents to the universities on February 8th, except for Ryerson, which I completed late February, and University of Western Ontario(My high school transcript still didn't show up as received in my student centre). There are two things that are stressing me out right now,

First, my marks:

Grade 9 GPA: 3.6
Grade 10 GPA: 3.3(I got a D+ in Mathematics in Grade 10, which is what worries me a lot.)
Grade 11 GPA: 4.0
Grade 12 GPA: 4.0(So far, this is my first semester GPA for grade 12)

Cumulative GPA: 3.7

SAT Scores:

SAT Reasoning Test (Took Twice):
1900( 760 Writing, 600 Mathematics, 540 Critical Reading)
1830( 610 Writing, 650 Mathematics, 570 Critical Reading)
Super score(The best combined scores): 1980/2400

SAT Subject Tests:
Mathematics Level 1: 730
Mathematics Level 2: 590
Ecological Biology: 780

The second thing that worries me is that I fear I may have been rejected since I haven't heard anything back from any of the universities yet. :(

Do you think I'll be accepted into any of these universities?

ok so these are my couses for grade 11
functions 11
English 11
introduction to anthropology, sociology and psychology 11 biology 11
chem 11
 gym 11
ok so i have one more course to add and i dont know whether i should choose physics or grade 12 advanced functions i want to get into a life science/health science program at u of t/mcmaster and physics isn't required HOWEVER it is recommended. so does that mean i should take physics or not??? i dont really want to take it if it isnt a must but if it helps my chances than i dont mind.

but if i take physics, i cant take advanced functions 12. I dont want to drop gym or introduction to anthropology, sociology and psychology, even though it wont help me for university. I still need a somewhat fun/easy course. so,

physics pros and cons:
1.recommended for university,
2.dont want to take it if its not a must,
 3.its hard,
4.i'll have to take 2 maths in grade 12 and no social science, cuz my schedule will be packed

grade 12 advanced functions pros and cons:
 1.i'll get 2 spares in grade 12,
 2.might regret not taking physics

SO SHOULD I TAKE PHYSICS 11 OR grade 12 ADVANCED FUNCTIONS IN GRADE 11?? i dont think i can handle 3 sciences and 2 maths. IS PHYSICS USEFUL FOR LIFE SCIENCE/HEALTH SCIENCE? its not required its only recommended, so should i take it?

Brock, Mcmaster..I need some help!

I am currently a grade 12 student, & I need some help and advice towards choosing a university!

For Brock: How well is the business program WITHOUT coop? Is it possible to switch into it/transfer to it while in university?

For Mcmaster: How well is the business program? Is there coop available?

Which would be the better choice? Brock no coop, or Mac?
