Can I transfer my major in first year if I don't like it?

A photo of Anonymous Anonymous
I applied to Biological Sciences as my major at Guelph and it's my top choice. The only issue was that I didn't apply to any specific program such as Biochem or Molecular Biology because I haven't had grade 12 bio in my first semester yet to know whether Biochem or Molecular bio are even my favourite. But I was wondering if after I get a feel for Bio chem or Molecular bio and end up wanting to switch my program to one of those, especially since Bio Chem offers co-op whereas Bio-Sci does not, will it be possible to do so?

First year is general science. You're not even in any major yet.

It is possible to switch into a different major after first year. Every single science major has the same first year classes which makes it easier to switch into other majors if you change your mind. The great thing is that in first year you also take specific courses, like Biodiversity and Molecular Biology so you can feel for those subjects and see if they interest you.

Oh okay thank you so much, I wasn't sure if Guelph was one of those uni's where the major is decided after first year or if you go directly into it. But thank you :)
