they are very important. anyone can get a 90, but not anyone can get a 90 while dedicating extra time doing other activities.

i only know about business programs so thats all i can comment on, but even with 100% average and literally a blank page of EC and extracurriculars you stand pretty much no chance of ivey/queens/schulich. some of these schools go as far as doing check ups by calling your school to see if you really were the executive of a certain club, etc.

at highschool not really hard to join a club even if ur a month late. Just walk into the room...

you gotta have SOMETHING at least, which you probably do since you need 40 hours of volunteer just to graduate. still only october, still pleenty of time to go do some stuff.

if you are applying to science programs or others i dont really know how important they are, but i would imagine they are still important.

"Not all programs require a Personal Profile, and others still have a separate supplemental application, but if you are applying to Arts, Commerce, Engineering, Forestry, Kinesiology, Land & Food Systems, or Science on the Vancouver campus, you can expect to see the Personal Profile section when you apply."

ECs are pretty important in your application to UBC, if you dont have many, your out of luck.. start now and do some volunteer or stuff like that
