Grade 11/12 Courses Help!!

A photo of Anonymous Anonymous
Hi everyone !
I'm having problems deciding on courses to fast track and what not, I'm currently about to finish up grade 10 and these are my grade 11 / 12 courses

11
English
Music
Grade 11 Math
Grade 11 Accounting
Co-Op
Grade 12 International Business
Grade 11 Econ

12
English
Data Management
Adv. Functions
Calculus
Economics
Finance&Investments
Music
Grade 12 Accounting

I'm planning to drop grade 11 econ to take either/both gr12 accounting or adv functions but the problem is I might not be able to take adv functions due to co-op conflicts and not even space etc.. in second semester.

So I wanted to know if people would suggest virtual school-ing or summer school-ing adv functions?
I would end up getting a tutor obviously if I were to virtual school Adv Functions in second sem of grade 11

THANKS FOR THE HELP!!

What are you doing coop for? Usually kids going into university programs with a lot of pre-recs avoid coop, which program do you plan on going into?

I don't know about virtual school, but I've heard mixed reviews about adv functions in summer school....Some people I know did bad in it, some did good.

I'm probably doing a HR firm or accounting firm
I'm doing a Specialist High Skills Major (Business) so I need co-op and 4 business courses in order to graduate with the SHSM seal.

I'm thinking of fast tracking grade 11 & 12 accounting next year and then just taking summer school for adv functions !

If you want to get a co-op job at an accounting firm, you will definitely need Grade 11 and 12 Accounting (or insanely good connections) - otherwise you're pretty much useless. "What's a debit?"

If your co-op is not second semester, good luck trying to get in an accounting firm. Especially since you only have 2 credit co-op.

Just to keep in mind. Accounting firms don't like to hire high school students (unless you have connections). You might be able to get into the accounting department in some sort of industry, but you will need connections, luck, or a combination of both. (It will also help to know lots of accounting software).

A job in HR or marketing will be easier to come by.

Do you have to take music? I would switch that and AF. If I had to choose between summer school and virtual, I would say summer school would be easier. You typically won't be penalized by universities, and even then it's fairly miniscule. Virtual school could be weird with math - it's a potential problem I would prefer to avoid.

I hope this helps.

Good to see your still here g93...
The forums are so slow now that everyone has accepted their offers.
I can't wait until next year, when more of my generation will be on these forums.

AF is an incredibly important course and probably the second most required course right next to English. Its surely a pre-req for any accounting/BA program. I guess summer/online school really depends on your own perception of your math abilities - if you're confident in learning the entire unit in a day, then you're fine. If you need to pick up the concepts slowly throughout the week(s), then it probably is not for you. I agree that you could drop music for it, because music really is nothing more than an average-booster in your top 6 (assuming its a M or U course). You should really decide after you finish gr 11 math though, imo. It was a fairly big jump from grade 10, but I don't find the jump from gr 11 to gr 12 too bad.

Wow. 3 maths? Calm down there. 12-U courses are though, especially with the Ontario curriculum in mathematics.

If you don't need data, I suggest taking it in night-school or summer school. It'll definitely lighten your course load.

Remember: Econ., Accounting, English are going to be your hardest courses (in my opinion) and will require you to study hard in preparation for tests!

3 maths isn't too bad. At most schools data is a bird course apparently.

While English might be hard to get good marks in, it's not really that hard. Same goes for accounting in my school (although at most it's a bird course). Economics is a little more difficult on average I would think (I took it, didn't find it too bad but the class average is like 60ish) but is nothing compared to the three sciences. Remember, many engineering students take AF, calc, three sciences and one other course minimum (at least 2 sciences anyways).

Well I guess it's just that my school is notorious for having bad math teachers and hard math department. Accounting will be a bird course if you've taken 11 accounting. Econ was easy, but requires work - which I lack thereof. Sciences... no.

You're only in Gr.10. Sure you don't want to take any sciences? Fast tracking by taking English in the summer was one of the best decisions I made :)

GG. You're a boss. I wish I did what you've done. English kills so much time and a 80 average is considered overkill.
