Ivey/Queen/Schulich

Hey everyone I'm new to this website. I'm wondering if it's possible to get accepted to a top B-school as mentioned above with little to no EC's but with a high admission average, let's say around 95 percent. Thanks.

95% will definitely land you all three of those schools. that 95% is a special number.

For a "BSchoolMaster" you really don't know that much. With no ECs, even if you had a 99% average you can say good-bye to Queen's and probably Ivey too.

You'll probably get into Schulich though.

This. Queen's only cares if it's over 87%, beyond that it's all ECs. I don't think Ivey's is as strict though, maybe half marks (above 90) and half ECs (that's just the impression that I got from their rep though). You're probably golden for Schulich however, from what I've heard from friends who go to York.

You guys couldn't be more wrong - 95% is pretty much an autp admit to ALL Ivey, Queen's and Schulich.
My friends and I've been thru this process and you guys haven't.

That is not a very valid argument.
Just because you've been through it one year does not mean that the same can be said for the following years to come.

Most business programs I know of DO look at your ECs, just saying.
Not 100% on east coast schools, but I have friends at UBC's Sauder School of Business, and they all had 90%+ averages in high school as well as an over the top list of ECs.
I don't know any people personally who got into Sauder and didn't have any ECs.

According to Queens representatives - both in real life and on e-chat sessions -, your marks do not play a factor past 87%. While they're probably just promoting a well done PSE, I doubt they'd full out lie if marks played any sort of significant factor past their magical 87%.

I must say if 87% is the standard then Queen's commerce is not competitive anymore. Look at Ivey, you probably need at least a 90 + good ECs to get in.

When looking at the entering averages, Queens commerce is one of the highest in Canada. You have to realize that someone submitting a good PSE will often have the marks to back it up. The result is a pool of excellent candidates, but not necessarily the ones with the highest academic averages. If you scour through last year's Queens Commerce thread, you'll see a ton of 95/96's waitlisted while plenty of 92/93's already accepted. High school is hardly considered difficult, it is more a showcase of effort. Achieving an 87% can show that you have the ability, your ECs show your commitment.

In that case then the 87% is just an empty number, is it not?

It's to prove you're capable of studying and performing in an academic environment. Your ECs and volunteering show that you have the potential to make a good business student.

I got 87% + and I didn't get into Queens. But I got into Ivey AEO. I will tell you why.

The Queen's PSE or whatever it's called now is really important. They really care about that. Thing is they don't give you a lot of characters or words to explain yourself. Do not do it the night before. Perhaps draft it and spend a week on it.

People tell me (not strong evidence, I know) that it's good to have variety on there. They're looking for variety and impact, not just a bunch of random ECs, although I'm sure this applies to every University.

Ivey should be fine for you. And Schulich is really dependent on marks so you'd probably get in.

EC's are important as it tells them about your character outside of your books. I mean, someone who gets 95 while having no life compared to someone getting a 92 who is out making the world and community a better place, representing their school well, etc. etc will look much less appealing.

I'm sure it's a combination of both...marks, EC's, etc. I'm pretty sure they DO care about marks past 87. I mean, they're not going to pass up someone who has a 99% average

I know people who got rejected from Queens with a 95% average and pretty good EC's.
The quality of your essay is a pretty big deal, at least thats how it worked out last year.

LOL nahhh like the expectations and the idea of getting rejected (I didn't realize I'd be able to pull of that average I thought I'd have like a 85 top 6)
