Question about Nominations

A photo of jaymeshaughnessy jaymeshaughnessy
I am currently planning to apply to several scholarships that require a "principal's recomendation" or a "recomendation from the school". Since I am quite new to this, I was wondering what it exactly means to be nominated.

In other words, am I suppose to hope that the principal or high school, comes and talks to me about nominating me for a scholarship. This only makes sense if it a big university entrace scholarship like the Queen's Chancellor Scholarship, but if it was a smaller scale scholarship, would my school even know about this or take the time to care about it?..

Or do I just approach the principal or guidance counsellor or whoever should "nominate me" and as them to fill out the nomination form (ie: approach them like i'm asking them to fill out a reference form). Thanks.

Definitely approach them. The worst that can happen is they say no.
