WikiLeaks something to talk about?

Madoffs son leaving family behind?

Israel?

Just something relevant to talk about I guess, points of view, opinions, facts and fiction. Understand these are just topics to have something to talk about, perhaps we can all inform ourselves a little, no need to be aggressive.

Thats right. Brazil supports Assange as well. I've also read that what Assange has done might actually benefit the U.S. How ironic. The leaked documents, many of them are just politicians flexing their muscles, showing their true colours, but they reveal who is doing what. So why prosecute the guy?

I love how some American politicians/political commentators are saying "Charge him with treason!" when Assange is from Australia.

Calvin's Case held that someone coming from a British colony always owed allegiance to the Crown, even if they were not born or did not live in the country in which they were being charged with treason.

Also, treason can be more generally seen as the attempt to overthrow, derail, or assassinate a government. You don't necessarily need to owe allegiance to that government and then go against it to be a traitor.

Their belief that Assange should be charged with treason has nothing to do with intelligence, so don't make it a discussion about something you can't prove. In fact, I'd say it's incredibly hard and you'd have to be very intelligent to argue why someone from another country should be charged with treason when so much of the legal case law says you can't be charged with treason if you're not from that country.

He hasn't done anything 'good' for the world or the U.S. Just think of all the people who are now at risk and bound to be killed because their name was contained in a leak about Al-Qaeda or any of the other thousands of terrorist organizations. Think of how many people are now out there at risk, bound to die or constantly thinking they're under a death threat.

What Assange did was horrible: it released hundreds of nations' secrets. They were secret for a reason.

And why? So that the average person could see "haha, the Swedish guy thinks the German guy is a push over."

There are hundreds of people who are against Assange. Forget what a few left wing hippies from other countries think.

Knowledge is power, but sometimes that power is put into the wrong hands. I usually am never a fence-sitter on these issues, but in the case of Assange and WikiLeaks, I sort of am. It's good to be informed and at the end of the day, no one is above the law. When we find out about who is and isn't abiding by the law (especially people we are supposed to trust) it really opens our eyes to what really is going on. On the other hand, I don't want some terrorist from God knows where holding the blueprints to our cities and nuclear facilities. Who knows what is put out there now? Who knows for sure if everyone's intentions are good or not? It's tricky.

As for Assange's supposed assault charges, I think that's just a bunch of wingnuts who are skeered of what dirt Assange has on them. Materializing a story like that is just childsplay to some people.

The "don't ask, don't tell" policy has been repealed :O

I don't believe this will stop the discrimination against gays in the military, though.
