The mind-frame of majority of the kids on this forum...IB wannabes

A photo of AZK AZK
“I want to be an investment banker. If you had 10,000 shares I sell them for you. I make a lot of money. I will like my job very, very much. I will help people. I will be a millionaire. I will have a big house. It will be fun for me.”

(Seven -year-old schoolboy, “What I Want to Be When I Grow Up,” March 1985. From Michael Lewis’s Liar’s Poker, 1989.)

CA Version:

"I want to be a chartered accountant. If you need some accounts balanced, I will do them for you. I will make a lot of money. I will like my job very, very much. I will help people. I will rule the world. I will have a big house. It will be fun for me."

Thinking 'bout me

I don't understand, what's wrong with people wanting to become investment bankers or chartered accountants? Someone has to do those jobs.

There's nothing wrong with trying to become an IB or a CA. Only dedicated and hard-working people become them anyways.

You can't really blame them... everyone hypes up these careers. Students are rarely exposed to all of the other aspects of business. But meh, who cares? To each his own.

because of this forum I now hate hearing "investment banking"

although I do admit the idea of being one is very intriguing (salary, executive lifestyle, Patrick Bateman)

the idea of being one is you only have 10 hours of sleep per week : )

If I could ever be granted the ability to never sleep and not bear any negative health effects from it, I would gladly do it. Imagine the things you could get done in 24 hours.

For those kids that truly want it bad, they will make sacrifices and take action to make it come true. For others they will stay a dream, and rightly so.

Nothing wrong with dreaming, nothing wrong with being naive/confident. Only thing I object to is a lack of action.

Christopher Gardner: Hey. Don't ever let somebody tell you... You can't do something. Not even me. All right?
Christopher: All right.
Christopher Gardner: You got a dream... You gotta protect it. People can't do somethin' themselves, they wanna tell you you can't do it. If you want somethin', go get it. Period.

I'm guessing the original poster is not an investment banker nor a CA, but he is someone that makes a post like this.

Christopher, with his determination could have done anything.
i think OP was referring to people who thought jobs like CA and iB would be shoo-in once they (i mean if they) even got in...basically with the same dreams but minus the hardwork

still one of my favourite quotes from one of my favourite movies :compress:

Everyone has the right to choose what career they want to pursue....However with these jobs, you really need to be dedicated and will in to work...a lot.

I want to be a CMA Ohhhhh not mainstream!

About 10 per year. And we still have all 10 of them for the year 2014...

Biotech/CA is special in that people realize they don't want to take either the CA or the Biotech part of the program and transfer out and/or reapply for AFM.

Most people who know what it is and what it entails don't actually want to be an investment banker. Its what i want to do after I graduate but its not my ideal career, my reasons being 1. if i can't find a job after my three years at IB are up i can get an offer to any decent B-school coming from any BB. 2. It's the exit opportunities that everyone wants, everyone wants to work for the buy side PE, VC, hedge funds.
