I don't know how useful this will be since 80% of people here will actually end up changing careers many times throughout their lives and/or not make it in their desired career field.

I'll shake things up! I don't know what on earth I want to do with my life!

I've applied to Public Affairs and Policy Management @ Carleton, Planning @ uWaterloo, and Social Sciences @ uToronto. While they all have a common element between them, they are all very different as well.

Simply put, I have a lot of different interests. I love working with children, I love designing communities, I love trying to think of innovative solutions to help the entire world. I love connecting multiple disciplines to help shape my view of the world. Basically, anything to do with teaching, city planning, and international relations and development. I'm at a bit of a standstill, cause they are all advanced fields - to be a teacher, you need a BEd, to be a planner, you need a PSB accredited degree to be competitive, and to work in many government jobs that involve the international scene, you need a graduate degree in the field.

Life ahead isn't clear cut for me, but then I never really expected it to be. My go-to has been find an issue, talk about it, solve it. The trick is just being open to whatever comes your way :D

Hey! I'm entering my 2nd year of PAPM. You don't necessarily need a graduate degree to work in government jobs like you stated above. Especially after graduating from the program. There are so many opportunities to gain experience and so many connections and networking events which make jobs like you seek accessible. If you have any questions specifically about the program, I wouldn't mind answering them.

I know this isn't business related but I thought I would share anyways! I am currently studying global health at York University. My career goal one day is to become a epidemiologist in the public health field!

For myself as well, my ambitions are not really related to business but I have a strong ambition towards a career in medicine! I definitely do not know what I want to specialize in thought I do find topics around the brain and human kinetics fairly interesting! I also enjoy researching as well! :)

M&A investment banking with a specialization in working with companies within the metals and minerals industry. Then I hope to leverage that experience to break into the astroid mining business and make copious amounts of money off that.

Mine could be business related - I am in my last year at Laurier Brantford studying Journalism, and specializing in Public Relations. I have a post graduate certificate in Integrated Marketing Communications, where I studied marketing, advertising, PR, and corporate communications. I'm currently leaning towards Marketing and Advertising now that I've expanded my options - though I'm one of those people who like to keep an open mind, because it allows for more opportunities. :)

As long as you're a good trader, it could work.

I've personally always disliked trading. I don't find moving money around very rewarding.

My ultimate career goal is investment banking, especially in sales & trading, or anything stock/capital related. I also have a a interest in entrepreneurship, which is something I can do when gained more experience and connections. However no matter what I am going to do, I don't want to work a 9-5 job, at least not in my 20s.

You want to do investment banking or anything finance related but you do not want to work 9 - 5? I gues you are looking to work 9-10 Cuz I know many people who are like that when deal comes in.

What I mean is that I don't just want to work a average job. I am willing to work extra hours if the job is something that will help me grow. And yes 9-10 is just a normal day  for those ibankers haha.

You don't want to do sales and trading.. for the most part you just stair at a computer and make sure the computer is processing trades correctly. In that case your probably better off trading on your own or joining another area of IB banking and then applying to hedge funds.

For now, i am looking towards becoming a CPA (certified professional accountants). My hope is that i will become an accountant, and possibly move up into a higher position within a company like controller or senior accountant (although i am not that optimistic with that growth).

I'd love to open a few higher-end backpacker hostels. Maybe start off in lower-cost countries like Poland, Hungary or Ecuador... and expand globally.

I want to work in public practice accounting for a couple of years, but I ultimately want to do something a bit more entrepreneurial (i.e. not just accounting).  Of course, being CFO (or a similar position) of some startup company or clothing brand is the dream, but private practice accounting would be okay too.  I'm a bit all over the place!

I want to get my bachelor's of nursing at U of C or U of A. Then work for a few years and go back to school to get my masters either at BC or ONTARIO and specialize in acute care or emergency room. My ultimate goal is to be a nurse practitioner.
