UBC Faculty of Science Admission - Please help!! :]

Hi guys,

I am a US student with permanent resident citizenship of Canada. I am thinking of applying to UBC, SFU, UVic, and U of T.

My marks are:
* Out school only uses whole letter grade and follows the 7 points grading system.

Grade 12
% Letter
(93-100)A - Honors English IV
(93-100)A - Honors Biology II
(85- 92)B - Honors Physics
(85- 92)B - Chemistry
(85- 92)B - AP Calculus BC
(85- 92)B - AP Statistics
(85- 92)B - AP Computer Science A

So for UBC, they will use my 4 senior-level courses to calculate my average
and for faculty of science they will likely use Eng4, Calc, physics, and chem

if so, my average will look like this:
lowest: 87%
Mid: 90.5%
Highest: 94%

Do you think i have a chance of gaining admission to Science? Art?

Art, for sure.
You only need about 86% average for Arts.
Science is probably in your hands too.
I heard that the cut off for sciences this year is 90.
The average of your top 4 is probably around there,
but hard to say since you don't have the exact percentage and only the letter grade.

Do the supplemental if you're unsure of whether you'll get in or not.
But I'm pretty sure you have a REALLY good chance with both faculties.

Thank you very much for your reply :)
I will def do the sup app
isnt the faculty of science super competitive?
and since all the students in BC no longer require their province exam grade, i'm worried that the grade will inflate like crazy.

Yeah UBC Science and UBC Sauder School of Business are both some of the most competitive programs out there.
Even though provincial exams aren't mandatory, most people who actually have 90%+ averages end up taking them.
It also depends on what school you go to and the teacher.
I know for a fact that my grades are inflated, sadly.. or I would be getting 95+ in all my sciences, haha. =[

But all your marks look REALLY good, I'm sure us BC students aren't really any competition for you. =P
The grading in the states is so different.
Here, an A is an 86 - 100..
a B is 73 - 85..
Crazy standards in the States!

Wow 95+, good for you!! :)

thank you :)
yea the inflated mark freaks me out a little,
what was UBC thinking before they remove the exam requirement?
is the exam like crazy hard that will bring down your grades significantly?

Oh I don't have 95+ in my sciences, I wish.
I only have 95+ in English and some other language/socials related classes.
:P

Well it wasn't just UBC that removed the requirement, it was all the universities.
No university in BC requires the exams now.
The exams themselves aren't TOO difficult, but I've only written the English 12 one so far.
But it did drop my mark 5%.. :( so I can't say that it was easy either.

Oo haha

I just got this email from UBC:

"I am guessing that Faculty of Science applicants were competitive with grades equivalent to a low A or high B at your high school...Note that the AP course we would increase the result by a half grade (i.e. from B to B+)."

So yea if that is true then my average range will be 88.75 ~ 96%

hmm B+/A- at our school is 92, a bit risky dont you think?
