Watweloo Online Interview

A photo of Anonymous Anonymous
Has anyone done the optional online interview for engineering? I saw on their website that there is only one question that will take no more than 5 minutes. However, I saw some people saying in the forum that there are 2 questions?! So confused

They probably changed it to 1 question recently. The interview is still fairly new so they’re still figuring out what works

Did you do it?

Nope. When I applied 2 years ago it wasn’t a thing.

Last year we had 2 video responses and 1 written question, which was similar to UofT and Mcmaster

For waterloo it was something like,
1. What makes you want to study at waterloo?
2. Name one situation when you had a conflict and how your solved it?
3. was a written part, i dont remember the question, sorry
The trick to ace those interviews is to basically sell yourself over other applicants. Talk about your experiences, skills, knowledge and pretty much brag about it and convince the recruiter you insanely deserve to study at waterloo more than the other applicants. Think of this like a job interview.
P.S. - You are  given about 30 seconds for each video question. So brainstorm accordingly.
Good luck!

Was a question general personal question or a problem solving one?

It’s supposedly a basic job interview style question

Did it last year. 2 spoken answer questions where you got 2 mins to answer per question. 1 written long answer where u had 10 mins. the first 2 q's were something about "why do u want to go to waterloo, why would u be a good candidate for eng?" blah blah blah. Long answer q was about some stupid "problem solving" question (i think mine had something to do with how many stops signs should be in a city with x population...wasnt memorable so i have no idea tbh). They're just testing u to see if u actually speak english and arent some international student who faked their english requirements. Don't stress. I dun goofed in mine and still got accepted.
