Which 2 books should I compare out of these?

A photo of paramecium paramecium
Emma - Jane Austen
Mercy among the Children - David Adams Richard
Of Mice And Men - John Steinbeck
The Old Man And The Sea - Ernest Hemingway
Things Fall Apart - Chinua Achebe
Heart of Darkness - Joesph Conrad
Secret Sharer - Joseph Conrad
Men Without Women - Ernest Hemingway
Moral Disorder - Jane Austen
Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen

I would prefer shorter books. So is Emma/P&P my best option?

Two Austen novels would work, but I sympathize with anyone who has to read her stuff. Do Heart of Darkness and Things Fall Apart. Achebe was a vehement critic of HoD.

I read Of Mice & Men for my ENG ISU, it was boring at the beginning but overall not the worst I've ever read. Good choices, but if I was you I wouldn't pick The Old Man and The Sea.

Yeah, P&P and Emma would be the easiest to compare. Both have headstrong heroins, their plots centre around marriage and romance, etc. It definitely will not be the most analytical comparison out there since neither books are very thought-provoking or deep.

Do both of the Hemingway books. All he writes about is old, stoic men, so I'm sure you can find similar aspects and themes in both books. Plus The Old Man and the Sea is an absurdly short read (if you're lazy, but efficient, like me). 80 pages man. And yet, it's an American classic.
