2. How many prizes are available and what are their values?

There are twelve (12) $1,000 cash prizes CAD, one awarded each month and four (4) $2,500 bonus prizes awarded quarterly throughout the year. There is a total of $22,000 CAD in cash prizes available. For more information, please see the Rules and Regulations.

The funding from the contest can be used for any educational expense: tuition, residence fees, textbooks or equipment – it’s entirely the decision of the winners to apply the prize where they need it most.

3. What is the contest deadline?

The Scotiabank Customer Contest for Students deadline is February 1, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. ET.

If you are located outside of the Eastern Time Zone, please make sure to take note of what your corresponding deadline will be:

Pacific: February 1, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. (noon)
Mountain: February 1, 2018 at 1:00 p.m.
Central: February 1, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.
Atlantic: February 1, 2018 at 4:00 p.m.
Newfoundland and Labrador: February 1, 2018 at 4:30 p.m.

Winners will be contacted by phone and/or email.

4. What are the eligibility requirements?

The contest is open to yconic members who:

  • Are Scotiabank customers who have one of the eligible Scotiabank accounts (or meet the “No Purchase” entry requirements);
  • Are 13 years of age or older;
  • Are Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada, or international students on a student visa (permit must be for one year or longer);
  • Are enrolled in the 2016/2017 or 2017/2018 academic year at a Canadian school.

Individuals associated with the Scotiabank Customer Contest for Students, including employees of yconic, Scotiabank, their subsidiaries and affiliated companies, and each of their respective directors, officers, employees, agents, representatives, promotional and marketing agencies, and any member of the immediate families of any of the foregoing and other individuals with whom any of the foregoing are domiciled, are not eligible to participate in the Scotiabank Customer Contest for Students.

5. Do I have to be a Scotiabank customer to win a prize?

You must be a Scotiabank customer and meet all the other eligibility criteria in order to win a prize.
For the purposes of this contest, a “Scotiabank customer” is defined as holding any of the following Scotiabank student accounts in good standing (i.e., not in default or delinquency status), as determined by a Scotiabank representative at the time of winner selection:

The more Scotiabank accounts an entrant has, the more entries into the contest draw they will receive.
You may also enter by submitting a “No purchase” entry essay submission.

6. I submitted an entry for the Scotiabank Customer Contest for Students and opened another Scotiabank account afterwards. Do I have to submit another contest entry form to receive additional entries into the contest draw?

Yes, please submit another contest entry form, selecting all the accounts you currently hold, including the account(s) indicated in your past entry form and the new account(s) you recently added. Your more recent contest entry form will be the one that will be taken into consideration and all other duplicate forms will be dismissed.

7. I’m still waiting for my permanent Canadian resident status or International student status to be approved. Am I eligible to enter?

Yes. However, you must ensure your permanent residence or international student status has been approved and finalized at the time the Scotiabank Customer Contest for Students winners are verified.

8. I attend a school outside of Canada as part of my program. Am I eligible to enter?

You may still be eligible to enter provided you are participating in an exchange program as part of your course curriculum at a Canadian school (your degree/diploma must be issued from a Canadian school).

9. How are entries allocated?

Entrants will receive the following entries for each Scotiabank student account in good standing (i.e., not in default or delinquency status), as determined by a Scotiabank representative at the time of winner selection:

  • Getting There Savings Program® for Youth = 10 entries
  • Student Banking Advantage® Plan = 10 entries
  • ScotiaLine® Personal Line of Credit for Students = 10 entries
  • L’earn® Visa* card1 = 10 entries
  • SCENE®* Visa* card1 = 10 entries
  • Scotia Professional® Student Plan = 15 entries
  • Scotiabank StartRight® Program2 for International Students = 15 entries

Each entrant who refers a friend or family member gets 10 extra entries for each friend or family member who signs up for the Scotiabank Customer Contest for Students, to a maximum of 100 extra “Share” entries.

Potential winners will be randomly drawn from a pool of eligible entries.

The Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to limit or modify the allocation of entries at any time.

10. What is the age of majority in my province/territory?

11. If I am selected, will I need to provide any other information?

The program administrator and sponsor, yconic, may require finalists to submit proof of age, proof of citizenship, proof of international student status in Canada (if applicable) and proof of enrollment at a Canadian school for the 2016/2017 or 2017/2018 academic year.
