#HashtagLunchbag
Posted:
Presenting an opportunity to Give to others. Feeding humanity. Feeling Gratitude. Inspiring anyone who's watching. Using shopping lists created by #HashtagLunchbag, groups buy food and pack meals that they deliver to the homeless. Each also includes a personal note. Volunteers chronicle their work on social media using #HashtagLunchbag, inspiring others and drawing more volunteers. It’s easy to dismiss homelessness and hunger as Third World issues, but we’ve got these and more problems in the U.S. and Canada, which need our attention.
Damaging effects of pornography
Posted:
We would like to create a video documentary educating our community on the damaging effects that pornography has on our youth. We would like to tackle this situation head on and work as one. We want this documentary to help youth and parents deal with this subject in a appropriate way.
Solving the Problem of Harmful Pesticides
Posted:
We are the University of Lethbridge iGem Team of 2015. This year's project aims to find an alternative method of protecting crops that are much less harmful to the environment, ecosystem, and economy than that which comes with the present use of harmful pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides. We propose an organic, species-specific, and degradable pesticide produced in bacteria using synthetic biology.
Girls Going Forward
Posted:
Girls Going Forward is an anti-violence program designed to empower women through entrepreneurial action. This year we expanded our Girls Going Forward Program internationally for the first time ever, impacting 15 women from the community of Ti Rocher. Our workshops were customized to meet the individual needs of each participant, helping build confidence and a support network for the women within their community. They also learn business concepts that they used to create sustainable businesses for their future. Sadly, there are still many women across St. Lucia that haven't been given the opportunity to receive the help they need. With the $1000 voting scholarship from yconic, Enactus George Brown will expand to more communities within St. Lucia, empowering even more women to break free from domestic abuse and financial dependancies.
LUMIFI
Posted:
Lumifi is an initiative inspired by the need of accessible high-quality education in communities without access to the internet. Through the use of modified and retrofitted second-hand routers a virtual database of educational content can be accessed via any electronic device without the need for an Internet connection! We launched our pilot at two schools in Jamaica, with the focus on literacy. In a mere 3 months, all students have progressed to a higher reading level. But we can achieve so much more, and we need your help to do so! Vote today!
Community Bank Mission
Posted:
Here at Cardinal Ambrozic CSS in Brampton, Ontario, we strive to ensure everyone has the tools they need to learn to their full potential. This led to a Community Bank Mission started by some of our own students specializing in the non-profit sector. The ambitious project grew with help from staff, students, and the community, and became the first of its kind in the school board. The Mission's goal is to provide low-income families in the surrounding area with necessities such as clothing, food, and school supplies.
