yconic is the place where you can give and get the help you need for your life as a student. To help keep our community an enjoyable, helpful and safe place for all members, please adhere to the following guidelines.
1. Be nice to people. It's okay to provide constructive criticism, but there is no need to insult other members. For example, "X major is over-saturated right now. You might have trouble finding a job" is fine. "Your major is dumb. Have fun working in fast food," is not helpful nor appropriate.
2. Ask actual questions. If you're looking for help with something, titling a thread "HELP, I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO" isn't going to appeal to the members that may be best suited to help you. Be specific and title your post with relevant information.
3. Don't abuse the anonymous feature by pretending to be multiple people. Surprise, surprise, we know who posts what :)
4. Please only tag relevant interests when you create a new thread. Adding unrelated interests is unlikely to get you the help you're looking for and can frustrate other members.
5. Avoid spamming. This includes replying to your own thread for the sole purpose of moving it up the discussion feed.
6. Don't expose other people's personal information. If someone is posting anonymously, please respect their privacy.
7. If you see something you don't like, click the 'Report' button in the post menu and a moderator will review it. Please avoid commenting on inappropriate posts as this only encourages them.
8. Did a post help you? Click the "Was this post helpful?" button to help us recognize our most helpful members and so that other people will know the response was...you guessed it, helpful!
If you do not respect our guidelines, you may be temporarily or permanently banned from the yconic community.
This is probably a stupid question, but I wanted to know if it’s possible to get accepted to Ontario universities/colleges after second semester finals come out.
I’ve searched on google for answers to this, but I haven’t found anything. If you know anything about this, please let me know.
Hi everyone, I am a first year AFM student at Waterloo and last year I was in your position. I was trying to figure out which university programs to apply to and I heavily relied on this website to make my final decisions from first years in the respected programs. If any prospective students in high school are looking to pursue the AFM program at Waterloo I would love to answer any questions, and talk about my experiences so far! I was admitted with a 91% average with excellent EC's.
I took biology last year and got excellent grades. I enjoyed the class and understood the material but I know that I have already forgotten most of what I learned. Since I am going to university for biology, should I reteach myself or will they teach what I need to know?
Hello, I took the Casper test on Jan 24, and it says it takes 3-4 weeks for it to send to McMaster, but it still says the application is incomplete. When i finished the Casper test i got an email saying that i didn't need to do anything else to make sure my results get to the school. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
I am a teacher and I have a Master's in Psychology. I am considering going back to school (online) and I am considering a Master's in Museum Studies from Harvard through their extension program. I am also considering a Doctorate in Education at a Canadian school. The masters programs and doctorates I am looking at will cost about the same. I hope to advance my career in education. Does anyone have an opinion on this?
So currently I am sitting on a 57%, but I have an incredible track record when it comes to volunteering in my community. I am looking at applying to Nipissing, Algoma, and last but not least Mcgill. Do I have a chance at getting in for Agriculture. Here are a few references that have helped me strive in the agriculture department.
Hello, Deciding on the right school and program can be distressing, and to make my decision a bit easier, I'd like to hear from people who are taking a Con-Ed program in an Ontario university and are loving it. Specifically, I'd like to hear about Con-Ed programming (content, student - professor ratio, graduate employment success rate, residence life) and school experiences from Nipissing, Brock and Queen's students. Thanks everyone.
Hi! I'm in grade 12 and next semester I have calculus, biology, world issues, and a spare. I was thinking of taking data management because I've been told that in nursing programs, we are required to take a statistics course (please let me know if this is true or not), but there is no data management class in my school next semester, so I was thinking of taking it in night school. Would this be a wise choice, or would the workload of having two math subjects in one semester be too much?
Some additional info: I'm taking advanced functions, chemistry, religion, and English(online) right now.
Is anyone at Carleton University for the Social Work program? I'm thinking of applying and would like to know what you think of the program and Carleton U in general (residence, student life, etc.). Also anyone taking Social Work at other Universities what are your reviews? Looking at a Bachelor of Social Work.
That time of year is coming and I'm wondering how many programs/schools you are planning on applying to. Also, what made you choose the programs/schools that you did? (Ie distance from home, reputation, program not available at a lot of schools, etc.)
I am currently a grade 12 student. I applied to the BScN Program at McMaster, Western, UOttawa(main site), Nipissing, Trent, Windsor and Brock. My marks are as follows:
Math - 85 (midterm)
English - 85 (midterm)
Biology - 75 (midterm)
Chemistry - 80 (midterm)
French - 96
ComTech - 83
Overall average - 84
These are my top 6 marks, including my prerequisites. What are my chances of getting in? Also, if I have received an alternative offer from a school before midterms, does that mean I am not considered for my first choice?
I was hoping for a 85-88% average this year but due to some family issues was not able to achieve that. It would completely shatter me if I did not get into Nursing anywhere by being just 1% away from an 85%, which is what Nursing usually asks for.
Since the OUAC targeted date for which all must have received an offer from an Ontario university have passed, and since today is the last day to accept an offer, which university are you guys going to in September?
I, personally, am going to McMaster for Life Sciences.
Hello future nursing students! I think we need one of these discussions to communicate with and help each other for this upcoming year.
Please, share with us:
1. Which school(s) are you applying to? 2. What other programs are you applying to as your back up? 3. What overall average are you aiming for for your final year?
I plan on applying to George Brown College, uOttawa and UOIT and I am aiming for a 92% average.
So I am looking into concurrent education at Nipissing University and the Teacher Education Stream at Trent and I was just wondering if it is hard to keep an 80% average in this program. Currently my grade 12 averse is an 87
Hello!
I am currently a grade 12 student. I applied to the BScN Program at Nipissing. My overall average is 84% and I found out that I am waitlisted. The cut off is 84.5%. Nipissing will re-evaluate applications in June after applicants have made their decisions. Do I have a chance of getting in? Does anyone have experience with waitlists? PLEASE HELP.
I'm starting a new thread for all Grade 12 students getting University acceptances!
If everyone could list what programs they applied to, what schools, their overall average they have now, and excepted average in the final few months of High School.
I applied to University of Guelph- Criminal Justice & Public Policy, Western- Criminology, Nipissing - Nursing, Brock- Nursing and Laurentian- Nursing!
Right now I have an 80 average but its because I am not doing as well as I had hoped in Data Management. I am expecting a 82 average after finals are submitted. However, I am expecting to have an 85- 86% by the time second semester midterm marks are submitted!
Do you guys think I chance in getting to the Criminal Justice and Criminology program's I applied to? Also does it really matter if you get accepted in March, April or May?
